James Cameron’s films aren’t exactly examples of deep characters…
He’s become an arrogant megalomaniac.
Cue up the hate, but I think Titanic is one of the most ridiculous, overwrought, sappiest movies of all time.
Anyone else remember when Cameron was a respectable filmmaker?
It seems like the title and the article are talking about two different things. The title makes it look like the cast is overly sensitive, rush and the plot is based on stupid decisions and miscommunication you would expect by teens rather than war heroes. But the article says they don’t experience emotions?? Like you could say a lot of negative things about college students but they experience strong emotions 90% of the time
Bro…
Character is not the thing James Cameron should be throwing digs around for. His movies are ambitious but certainly not in the character department.
Rather watch marvel and dc over avatar and titanic any day. 😂
ITT angry marvel fans.
He’s not wrong, but he’s also should watch his own films
He’s not lying. Marvel has turned into a joke, especially Thor 😂
This thread is idiotic. James Cameron has some dumb opinions, Marvel has some underdeveloped characters. Both things are true.
Honestly I notice they’re actually adding a bit more emotion like in love and thunder: as Jane disappears, Thor just doesn’t cry all that much and watches as her ashes drift off into the unknown, this is because he has seen so much death and lost too much well you just can’t cry, you lose that energy over time of just losing all you love. Fitting reaction tbh
James Cameron is the most pretentious MFer out there. He’s like the South Park episode where they sniff their own farts
But having the plot of the first Avatar being about a team of researchers in search of “Unobtanium” is somehow NOT sophomoric or childish? What’s the matter? Did you not want to use “CantFindium?” Or how about “CantComeUpWithaNameium?” Sorry James. You’re not as “High Brow” as you think you are.
Might be the pot calling the kettle black but he’s fucking right.
I honestly don’t get why this is a surprise for anybody, the Marvel and DC films are basically kids films, they’re not supposed to have character development or anything like it.
It’s like judging the Harry Potter books as fine literature, that’s not what they or, nor what they are supposed to be. The Marvel and DC universes are for fun and entertainment, Cameron is talking like they’re supposed to be judged as films made to win awards at Cannes.
James Cameron can’t write a good story so he has to attack other movies.
Even if I agree that the arguments and conflicts are immature, at least I remember what they’re about. I can’t remember anything about Avatar except that they bang with their tails, I don’t even remember which tail it was.
Idk, Christian Bale was acting his ass off in the Thor movie. It’s like he wasn’t even told it was a comic book movie
Sure, like Avatar is any better… dude is so full of himself.
He is right. I mean sure people will attack him for some of his movies being pretty emotionally thin themselves, but it doesn’t make his comments untrue
Said the guy who makes 3 hour long screensavers and calls them movies.
A lot of clickbait titles have been happening. In interviews I see Interviewers constantly bring up Marvel. I’ve never seen him say anything bad about Marvel. Interviewers ask him about those films as a director, he answers. He’s not comparing his films to them. He talks generally about the idea of having a huge franchise or what it’s doing to the film industry, or how it’s pushing technology. He mentions Marvel, Star Wars, DC comics, and has even mentioned Lord of the Rings when talking about effects.
They constantly do this to stir comic fans. The industry is having a field day loving the clicks. Stop falling for it.
Iron Mans death was more emotional than Jacks. Fight me.
I mean so does he. He sets the bar for pretentious fart-huffing.
He’s good at building suspense and getting butts in seats. No one can take that away from him. There are better film critics in grade school. He completely undermines my respect for him when he shits on other movies. Can’t he just make great movies and keep his mouth shut about other people’s movies? Of course not.
But he names his material in his world unobtanium. Unobtainable uranium. He isn’t as good as he is given credit for, and his writing is like they are all in highschool.
i saw the way of water yesterday finally. beautiful visuals, but the story is just pure nonsense. and the runtime is purely to show off the visuals, not because the story required 3 hours to tell.
it’s not a bad movie, don’t get me wrong. but the guy doesn’t realize he is basically making marvel movies himself, they’re just not in the MCU.
also the MCU movies atleast have different interesting characters and villains. this guy made 2 movies with the same villain but now he is blue. and protagonists that are also the same but a different color of blue.
cmon tho his movies often have the exact same stories and plots as other known movies, avatar is nothing but a space pocahontas movie
When I agree that the characters are written superficially, I also think it’s stupid to care too much about something like that. Almost all of the movies in the MCU have cliché plots but that doesn’t stop people from watching them. They’re movies. It really shouldn’t matter.
You know he was pissed when the internet agreed the first avatar had no cultural impact lol dope CG though
