You are listening to a voice almost 100 years old. This is Robert Johnson performing ‘Cross Road Blues’ in the early 1930s. The riff altered music history and influenced the biggest guitar legends. He is regarded as the first ever rock star.

He was in no way a “rock star.” He remained largely unknown outside of his immediate area until decades after his death.
Some say he sold his soul to the devil
This is dumb. It’s blues, not rock and roll. Rock and roll didn’t exist until the 50s.
Why don’t we just say Beethoven was the first rock star then? How about Bach?

Spent a couple summers at my great aunts in Mississippi. Turns out he spent a lot of time in that area playing. Pretty cool
Would’ve been nice if the clip title could’ve spelled his name right.
I’m not hearing anything even with volume turned up.
You just make shit up in the title for fun?
Sounds like my sister and me jamming, her on keyboard and me on guitar.
Yes, we are Robert Johnson fans!
Soo cool ,thank you so very much
Now do yourself one better and look up the pitch/speed corrected versions.
You’ll hear RJ’s real voice!
The Man Who Sold His Soul
The only thing that matters is that this tune kicks fuckin ass!
28 songs.
Wow he had a great body. Didn’t know he could play sax too
Oh Brother, Where art though…
RIP my dad, this was his goto track
Why tf is there a pic of Angelia Jolie in the middle of this?
Im not trying to diminish Johnson’s talent or legacy, but no serious person could ever believe the nonsense about selling his soul, and he was far from the first. (Check out Son House first, and then tell me that Johnson “invented” the blues riffs he played.) He’s just a great player whose name got blown up as a marketing ploy.
He was a bluesman, and not even wildly popular. So no.
The first rock star is a split crown between Chuck Berry and Elvis. Why? Chuck was older and at it longer, but broke big a year *after* Elvis, who was inspired by him.
I first heard this song in a video game, very likely Mafia 3. The tune is really catchy.
Crazy to think in a few yrs time 1930s will actually be a 100 yrs back.
Damn, we’re old
The video’s visual references, apparently related to the song, are a bit off. Still trying to figure out where Angelina Jolie fits in, lol.
Great song but I don’t understand what Angelina Jolie was doing there or was she the devil?
First of the 27 club
The 2000s coen brother’s movie O brother where art thou has a mention and reference of him.The guys meet him at the cross roads. There is also a legend about robert johnson who became a gifted guitar player by selling his soul to devil.
perhaps the question begs: ‘what early rock bands Didn’t cover this tune?
Someone never heard of Lisztomania
He sold his soul to the devil down at the crossroads.
Sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads!
We need an ai separation remix of all of his material
Absolutely slangin’ nobody plays as mean as RJ. I have to say, if you like RJ you should check out Nat Myers, he’s got that old school blues style.
Not sure why the video had pics of the west and and beautiful woman.
It should have been pics of the Klan and blacks who were lynched. That’s the world he lived in.
If you happen to be in Clarksdale, Mississippi, I’m sorry. And you can visit the crossroads mentioned in this song. There’s a gas station right there that sells 40 oz. cans of malt liquor. CANS!
