I worked at GameStop back then. This was the first console Gen that sold out and we had to custom preorder the SKU so we literally had a handwritten list of preorders. The demo unit was in a glass case and overheated quite a bit and had Kong in it at all times.
One spoiled kid got one and returned it within a week because he didn’t like it. The next person on the list happily took the used unit
I remember them coming out. Such a big upgrade from the original Xbox. Although the ring of death was a constant PITA.
COD2. What a great game that is, played it on legendary and loved it. Chipped away at it a checkpoint at a time over many nights until I finished it. Very satisfying.
I’ll never forget waiting outside of Toysrus with my dad from 2am until open to be the 3rd of 20 something lucky people to get the 360 on release day.
We initially drove up for the target across the parking lot that had a huge line down the sidewalk by the time we arrived. Toysrus was completely dark, but had two people sitting out front, so we popped over to join them.
These and the memories of staying up at GameStop for WoW expansion releases are some amazing memories. I hope to share the same sort of experience and love of gaming with kids of my own one day. I’ll be thinking of my dad the whole time.
Got it the day it came out and Call of Duty 2 blew me away. That and King Kong looked amazing for the time. The best looking games I ever saw. So realistic.
An unprecedented 512MB of Ram
Damn i feel Old Now…
NFS Most Wanted is still my favorite racing game of all time.
399$ in 2005 is ~628 today, dang.
You just unlocked my memory of looking through the circuit city paper every week as a kid
lol at that Linksys router. It was everywhere back then
Call of Duty 2. Woah.
$225 worth of accessories… a fucking ethernet cable and an AV cable… so h9w much was the 20gb worth
$99 is such a scam for that wireless adapter, by the time I got one Christmas 2008 they had started including them with the Xbox lol
“communicate with teammates or talk trash over Xbox live”. Wow that’s some really good marketing!
Games were so good people only had to keep rebuying a 360 system to play them.
$100 for a network adapter Jfc Microsoft
Anyone else remember Kameo? I have fond memories playing at a friends, but we never beat it. Always wondered other peoples opinions on it
Ah, Circuit City. I remember Circuit City

Lol the $100 WiFi dongle. It was ridiculous that they charged that much for it.
I can smell this paper rn, browsing through it as a child. Core memory unlocked..

Core memory unlocked here, definitely remember this ad! Couldn’t get my first 360 until months after launch but got CoD 2, PGR3 and Oblivion with it
