I don’t know if the fairy girl with the constantly erect nipples or the fact that every battle scene is just barely rotoscoped war footage is the grossest part of this movie. Probably the nipples. Cause the shitty war footage is just a cost cutting maneuver. They spent time and energy animating erect nipples poking through a dress in every scene that fairy lady is in.
Such a random movie with such overt messaging. I loved this movie and animation style as a teenager. Always seemed like I could find one more image hidden in the complexity of the drawings. I remember a story going around at points in the filming they ran out of budget so they just narrated or used old footage for parts of it. No clue if it’s true but makes for a fun story.
LOVE Ralph Bakshi’s stuff, especially this one!
I rented this as a 7 year old not knowing what it was about.
Love this movie. True story; This came out the same month in ‘77 as Star Wars came out. Needless to say, it got clobbered at the box office. It could’ve been huge. I, as a 10 year old, watched this movie at the theater. I only ever saw Star Wars in ‘81, four years later.
Always been a favorite. And I still love the ending…
>I wanna show you a trick mother taught me when you weren’t around…
The black and white parts look like Wally Wood’s style. Does anyone know if he was part of this?
Just rewatched it a few months ago, and I enjoyed it again. The first time I saw it, it blew my mind. I was young, and I blame this movie for my Fairy fetish. I can’t resist a woman with pointy ears and wings
I saw this one night late at night on the sci-fi Chanel. I was like 9. I thought it was so weird the one girl said she would sit there so the wizard could stare at her. And I was like “oh…OHHH”
Good movie
I know this movie because of Brandon Tenold
I love this movie. I still have a dvd of it and I really need to get that out and give it a rewatch, it’s been a while.
I watched Wizards when I was 18–long ago—and was absolutely mesmerized. It left me in awe the same way Easy Rider and The Wall did. Really brilliant film.
I still have this movie on VHS. Such an underrated film.
I’m very glad to see that people are talking about this movie decades later.
Always one of my favorites. Especially with the injections of humor with all the other elements.
i bought this at a best buy randomly after seeing avengers: endgame in the theater. Definitely has my all time favorite final wizard duel.
I’m glad you changed your last name, you son of a bitch!
I recall seeing this film three times over three weeks. It was at the Dollar cinema and it was one of two movies playing that was PG. I’d walked two miles to the mall just to see what was playing on the marquis. Too tired to walk back home I’d pay my dollar and sit in the AC and rewatch whatever they were showing.
The cinema went bankrupt once and they only showed Silver Streak with Richard Pryor and Steve Wilder for a year. I was damned well sick of that movie.
I recently saw a snippet of Wizards on YouTube and realized I’d completely forgotten everything about it. I was 11. What do you want.
We wasted so much time before the internet.
They killed Fritz.
One of the best endings to a fantasy movie. Really shows you how to treat Nazis.
Part of my namesake. I love this movie so much.
Had it on VHS for years, then lost it years back. Saw someone mention they got it off Amazon. THANK YOU for that. ❤️
Saw this randomly, it was for sure ahead of it’s time. Would be cool of they made a live action version of it.
My favorite Bakshi film.
Strong Naussica vibes. Never heard of this one and I’m a huge anime and Ghibli freak
I’ve always wondered is south parks “they killed Kenny you bastards!” Was their version of “they killed fritz you bastards!”
Still one of my favorite animated scenes
Wizards is very weird but I absolutely love it.
This movie had a profound effect on my understanding of fascism and war. I was fully engaged with it the first time, as it am today.
Great movie
Same here! Wizards is like a psychedelic rollercoaster for the imagination. Bakshi is a creative genius!
Don’t forget Rock and Rule.
It’s weird that this one came out before Heavy Metal, and R&R came out after. I only saw them both after, but felt like it was a sort of continuation.
Strange looking back at the actual timelines.
Vaughn Bode!!!!!!!!!
I fucking love this movie lol. I bought it a few years ago based on some offhand comment the Nostalgia Critic made about movies for people who love weird animation. I show it to people when I want to see their reaction to all the insane stuff that happens in it, and I keep stressing that this is a movie meant for kids. I love every second of it and it’s weirdness
In the late 80’s, I saw the movie ‘Wizards’, in 7th grade English class. I have loved Ralph Bakshi movies ever since.
Edit: Clarity

They killed Fritz. !!!
For those looking for this I’ll save you a search [Internet Archive: Wizards](https://archive.org/details/y2mate.combernievstrumprzlyugsut7q360p)
The ending was totally un-expected.
Great film.
I tried watching this a few months ago and found the story not paced well. By about 20-25 minutes in I had trouble identifying with any character. I might give it other try.
In the 90s, I submitted the plot of Wizards as my English final examination piece as an original story that I wrote.
One of my all time favorite movies. From a lot of standpoints it’s not a *good* movie but it’s compelling as hell
Max : Fritz! Fritz, get up for God’s sake! Get up! They’ve killed Fritz! They’ve killed Fritz! Those lousy stinking yellow fairies! Those horrible atrocity-filled vermin! Those despicable animal warmongers! They’ve killed Fritz! Take that! Take this! Take that, you green slime! You black hearted, short, bow-legged…
Fritz : Max! Max, I’m okay! I’m okay max. Just a scratch. Look I’m all right.
Max : Oh. Oh, damn. There you go again, stepping on my lines, raining on my parade, costing me medals. Oh, damn.
[Accidentally shoots Fritz]
Max : Ohh. Oh, Fritz? Fritz, get up for God’s sake! Get up! They’ve killed Fritz! They’ve killed Fritz! Those lousy stinking yellow fairies! Those horrible atrocity-filled vermin! Take that! Take that! They killed Fritz!
This movie has the all time best Wizard Boss Battle finale.
Man, watched this movie many many times at a way too young age to get it.
But also fairy boobies, so…
Wow, coincidently I happen to be wearing my Wizards t-shirt at work today! : ) [ It’s one of my favorite 70s sci-fi movie t-shirts so to be honest the odds were pretty good. ]
Though I remember it’s poster at the local cinema when I was kid in ’77 I didn’t get to see it during its initial release. First got a chance to see it at an art house screening years later when I was at university. My favorite Bakshi and one of the reasons 1977 was such a banger year for film.
This and Heavy Traffic are my favourite Bakshi pieces.
Fritz? Fritz?!? Oh my God! They killed Fritz!
