I was impressed by the extensive trenches. Those were really dug as part of military exercises.

You might enjoy this (real) rescue operation from around this same time. A female pilot straps a tire to her back and walks from one plane to another in order attach the tire so the damaged plane can land safely.
How did they film the casualties, the planes going down in flames?
No wonder this film won the first Academy Award!
When I was much younger, I was fortunate enough to have my parents take me to one of the last remaining theaters that still showed silent films and we saw “Wings”, complete with the organist accompanying the film, as was done when it was originally shown.
Super cool experience.
Was the fire originally coloured like this or is that a “remaster”?
I can’t imagine what it must have been like to see this in 1927.
