This is something that has always fascinated me. I’ve tried a few of From Software’s games, and I can obviously see that most of them are great games, but I just can’t understand how people can flight the same enemy/boss 10/15/20 times. I’ve always assumed the gratification after the victory is worth it, but that hasn’t been the case for me. It’s just frustrating and time consuming. Maybe if you don’t have too much time, spending a lot of it on a single encounter seems like a waste.
All that being said, people who finish these games and others who do so with even greater disadvantages/challenges are an impressive bunch. And entertaining to watch at that.
I have to say, Lies of P felt extremely gamey and the combat style did not really play into the boss fights enough. There was a lot of potential left on the cutting room floor.
The agony of having your head caved in by a giant flying flamethrower drone thing with bullshit shields is cancelled out by screaming at it to go suck its own dick when you win
If it’s not one thing, it’s automatically the other? Maybe the feeling you get from beating a hard game is what drives you, not the pain you get from the process.
I think its beating the odds and finally kicking the shit out of the guy who was kicking the shit out of you that gets me.
Its one thing to kill “that grunt over there” but it’s much better when it’s, “that motherfucking piece of shit asshole with his goddamn bullshit fuckin ranged ass…”
It’s just a great game except for those stupid pike enemies that rush towards me poking me causing way too much damage. Fuck those guys. Great game tho and I’m having a blast
I’ve already quit it at the black rabbit brotherhood. The game just stopped being fun and just got annoying and tedious so I switched to the Witcher 3 and halls of torment. Like my friend said: games are supposed to be fun
Lies of P’s dodging mechanics and talent tree for them were dealbreakers for me unfotunately, that kind of skill parring is just obnoxious. Feels like ADP in DS 2, only in that game you have way more options from the get go. Also my rig chugs with it so maybe if I had a better PC my blocking would be better.
Meanwhile here I was bashing my head against Balteus and CEL 240, both I think are amazing bosses.
Oh believe me i know how you feel, i recently got through the original baldurs gate games and they restrict you to the letter of the rules while allowing enemies to break them, the RTS combat system using turn based rules made combat a dull mess with no real creativity allowed (mostly just overbuff your party before entering hard combat)
i hated it, pretty much beginning to end, and then the very end was kinda a disappointment, but i can at least say i beat the quadrilogy on normal, now it’s finally onto BG3 with difficult yet competently designed combat
I’ve gotten more upset with lies of p than any other game in memory and yet for whatever reason I remain compelled by it

Oh crap. So, I’m a masochist? That explains a lot.

I swear I hate it when mfers call soulslikes „masochistic“

Haha, this is so true!!!
I enjoyed Elden ring, but what I’ve seen of lie of p makes me happy I didn’t bother with purchasing it.

yeah
As gamers we like to eat shit just to confirm it tastes like shit. Doesn’t matter if other people have tastes it, don’t know until you try yourself.
This goddamn clown man.
The game is Lies of P, utterly incredible soulslike, far beyond (hell leagues above) the usual ‘clones’ quality.
Something about these kinds of games just don’t click with me. I think it’s just the pace feels glacial compared to most of the games I play
What is he even playing?
every damn crucible knight on my first playthrough.
It’s never been about feeling more pain. It’s about losing and being forced to improve, try new things, and be challenged. Simple concept imo
as a masochist who also likes Souls games I can tell you that the feelings are different
The issue with P is that it has you completely invested in the melee build. There is very little in terms of magic or ranged battlers like fromsoft.
I like to imagine that the soul games would have made a lot of money back in the days

I’m in the same boat. I’ve beaten From Software bosses, although not very many, and the satisfaction is never there. I just stay angry.

ok but seriously fck that clown puppet in particular
Is Lies of P good? I’m fond of souls games, beat them all multiple times, and I hear its a lot like them.
