The therapeutic tropical setting, and oddly satisfying goop cleaning mechanic of Super Mario Sunshine is something I dearly miss. Enough time has passed where a sequel armed with greatly improved graphics and new innovations from more recent mario games could really shine (pun intended). Any of you interested in a sequel to this classic?

I’d be all for it, oh to return to the tropical paradise that is Isle Dephino.
Would be a welcome surprise launch title for the next Nintendo console, I’ll +1 on this
Super Mario Melanoma
I liked Sunshine. He was Power Wash Simulator before there was Power Wash Simulator.
Only if it takes the Piantas to task for that kangaroo court.
Makes sense for a Switch 2 launch title. It could look amazing with updated graphics and this kind of positive setting! People seem to love that powerwash game.. So I think it would be an instant classic!
Unpopular opinion here but Mario Sunshine, while a good game, probably would’ve been better as a new IP rather than a Mario game. The concept, environments and mechanics are cool but they didn’t feel like they belong in the Mario series.
And as far as sequels go, I think we would be better off with a Galaxy 3 or Odyssey 2.
Heck yeah. That was the second game I ever ever played, and my favorite Mario game.
I always imagined Mario being more hairy.
With bigger nipples this time.
Jesus I got unproportionally excited just seeing this. My disappointment seeing its not actually coming.
O.G. Mario Sunshine was a great game. I know not everybody loved F.L.U.D.D., and in fairness it did trivialize some platforming (specifically the hover nozzle).
That said, I still really loved the atmosphere. Every area was bright and fun with well designed obstacles, puzzles and events. The backpack added some mobility especially in the water.
Fix the controllers and that weird sliding feeling and im all aboard, fun game but man was it not fun to control mario
I’m still waiting on Super Mario 65
The original was rushed and had flaws, but the concept was interesting. I’d welcome a sequel, but they’d have to rework to the level design and Fludd mechanics to avoid the pitfalls of the first, and having to trek all the way back up levels.
Most people will not remember but this at the time, but this game was seen as a massive let down and disappointment. Many factors to explain this feeling one being fludd (the majority hated it at the time) but the major one was that it followed what most Mario fans would consider the best game in the series and the overall gaming community would consider the greatest game of all time, Super Mario 64. I’m very glad to see this game has since then been given the recognition it deserves. It’s right up there with Mario64 the first Galaxy and Odyssey. Also to note, The legend of Zelda wind waker also had the same struggles and also in time overcame the hate.
I want to explore the other islands you see during the opening scene, like the crab island.
Sunshine was by far the hardest Mario game for me. The levels where your water pack gets taken away were so stupid hard!
Probably the only Nintendo game I’ve ever liked and it never got a sequel. Fucking travesty
I’d love for a sequel. This is by far my favorite Mario title. I will say though, upon a recent replay, I realized how short it is. I felt like I was just getting started, and I was half way through. I’d hope they’d make it a much longer game.
Free plumber toes 😍
For me, part of what makes Sunshine so fun is how great the movement is.
It’s incredibly snappy and there’s a ton of small tricks you can do the really get moving quickly.
Unfortunately that also makes the game pretty unforgiving and hard to control for some people. And Nintendo has been making Mario games pretty rigid with the movement mechanics.
One example is how the spin-jump just has been significantly worse since Sunshine. It’s was super fast and fun to use, and they’ve nerfed it into a barely usable gimmick.
I really don’t see them capturing the same magic that Sunshine had.
Would work great as Mario’s first open world game. Bowser’s Fury showed that an open world Mario game could work, and FLUDD would add to Mario’s moveset to make it even better. Plus, the old levels felt so distinct while also feeling from the same location. Would be perfect.
Certain moments in Totk give me strong Sunshine vibes.
It always felt like an unfinished game to me. Only a handfull of level and the lenght of the game extended via purple coins.
Graphically was great, but level design, controls and mechanics were a step back compared to SM64.
My favourite game of all time and the setting really helps
Id fucking cry. Sunshine was my ALL TIME FAVOURITE GAME as a child and if they did a sequel id absolutely melt in my own tears of joy!!
I haven’t preordered a game in a while. I’d preorder this right now if I could.
I want Super Mario Sunshine the Movie
The settings and idea behind it was dope. The level design, controls and FLUDD mechanics were wonkey at times, so if you fixed those things but left the cool gimmick idea and the setting, it could be solid.
Tbh sunshine is my favorite mario game of all time
Did me and the Mario Sunshine revisionists play a different game? I played it when it was new, and was pretty let down. Sure, there were some fun parts – it’s still a Mario game after all – but it was clearly underbaked and runs out of ideas fairly quickly. I didn’t even hate FLUDD, but very few of the levels felt like they were designed to do anything fun with it aside from making the platforming way, way too easy.
I think they’ll end up doing an Odyssey 2 and have a Dolphin Island world in the game. I remember hearing that it was supposed to be DLC but they could’ve scrapped that in favor of a full blown sequel like they’ve done with Zelda.
eziest upvote of my life
All I can think about is how cursed Mario’s feet are in this image.
You can use Isle Delphino as the main hub and then go off and travel around the other islands we saw on the inflight movie right before they landed.
The turtle, jellyfish, crab and so in islands
It’s deserved.
Odyssey had some tropical vibes to it and I loved them.
Speaking of Odyssey, a lot of the components that made that game work would definitely give a Sunshine sequels it’s due course.
To return to Isle Delfino and be able to see it in its glory all these years later would be awesome as well as fresh – taking the isle Delfino hub world and remixing it, updating it and renovating it would prove wonders for a sequel.
I also miss F.L.U.D.D.
You had me at “Super Mario Sunshine deserves a sequel.”
Do we really think Mario has no chest hair? I won’t even ask about the lack of nipples.
Smrpg first dude.
This was my hands down favorite childhood game. I miss sunshine so much.
I really enjoyed that game, one of the few games I got 100%.
And I agree with you, the tropical vibes, the color pallet, the peaceful creatures, it was a cool place to spend time!
You didn’t actually have to explain anything. The picture was sufficient.
My friend, Super Mario Sunshine is a *great* game and a modern sequel would probably fix all of the original’s problems too.
That being said, the game was most certainly *not* therapeutic haha. There were some *evil* levels in that game.
Because mario needs another vacation, he’s going to work himself into an early grave
It does???
