Yes the light of the sun can bounce inside the star itself for as long as the star exists but that’s not what people usually want to know when they ask, how long does it take for the sunlight to reach earth.
True the more precise question would be “how long does it take light to travel the distance between the sun and earth?” or “how long does it take for sunlight that comes from the suns surface to reach earth?”. But in most scenarios those specifications are not needed as the level the conversation likely remains at a casual level.
