Why Steel from Before 1945 is Weirdly Expensive

  • It’s because it has no radiation from atomic bombs in it. It’s used for extremely accurate medical devices that have 0 tolerance for radiation and you need clean steel which is hard to make today because there is a small amount of radiation everywhere.

    That is why boats, submarines and other vessels that had sunk prior to nuclear detonations are highly sought after and divers go and cut them to pieces to sell the steel to manufacturers of medical and other devices.

    It’s hard and expensive to produce radiation free steel in normal steel mill because you would need to filter the air, filter the iron etc…
