  • PS5 games have better compression and can sometimes be smaller due to the architecture of the PS5 and less need for stopgaps in the data of the game. The PS5 discs if I’m not mistaken also hold a bit more data than the PS4 discs. It’s not that big of a shock.

  • Reminds me back in the day when I first played Final Fantasy 8. “Woah four discs? Cool!”

    Now it’s just like “I thought this was why Blu-ray was invented? To keep from having this happen.”

  • There use to be games that came on multiple discs as far back as the 90s. Mostly PC games, but then later down the line PS1 games came on multiple discs, FF7 and MGS1 being a few examples off the top of my head.

    But this is just a case of one for installing the data you need, if you aren’t gonna download it I assume, and the other only to play with. I’m not exactly sure what’s on the game disc, but I assume it’s just the rest of the data that doesn’t need to be installed on the system to run. Even if you install a huge chunk of data on to said system
