Who still remembers the original Dead Rising? Its sense of urgency and tension is so good, but that survivor AI is so atrocious š

I played that game over and over in a way that I *never* play video games now today.
I also drove that stupid car in and out of the parking garage a million times to get some stupid achievement for killing an insane amount of zombies.
The UI was not great, because I couldnāt read a damned thing on screen, but the gameplay could teach Jackie Chan a lesson about improvised weaponry.
The AI situation was at least partially a design choice. The game would be piss easy if the survivors had perfect tracking, reactions, and could get out of zombie grabs without your help. All Capcoms games have difficulty baked into the game.
My hot take on this game is that the wii version is better. There’s a whole gunshop mechanic and instead of guns breaking when you were out of ammo you just had to buy more ammo
I remember it being the first game you could not play on a standard definition tv due to the text being so small.
I hate time constraints. I also never finished this game because of it. Pikmin had the same issue for me.
ha ha ha, oh man…I cheesed the leveling in this by just reuniting the old couple and taking pictures of them and letting it hit the 3rd day to restart.
It was a great concept but struggled a lot in AI and controls. Trying to fight the vehicle in the courtyard as a nightmare.
All I remember is I was invincible with the tricycle
The countdown sucked. Like here’s this cool sandbox of things to do, things to explore, etc BUT DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH IT BECAUSE YOU HAVE PLACES TO BE.
It wasn’t quite that bad, but for someone who likes exploring basically always running on crunch time wore out its welcome. I played and beat DR 1 but DR 2 didn’t keep me in, and then State of Decay better suited my preferences.
Had fun with it back in the day. But it was LOADED with problems that made gameplay a chore.
One of my favorite Xbox games.
Never got far in that game. Loved the concept and some of the ideas but the horrible escort missions and bullet sponge bosses were too infuriating for me.
The dialogue from 1 is more memorable, but the crafting in 2 made me not want to go back
I wanted to love this game, but the save system killed it for me.
Let’s just take this shortcut through the center….
*vroom-vroom* “ooohhhhhHHHHHH”
WEEEEEELLLLL
HE AINT MY BOY, BUT MY BROTHA IS HEAVY
Both this series and pikmin (less so) stopped being as interesting when they got rid of / relaxed the time constraints imo.
I also remember the text being too small on a standard def tv lol
I replayed the demo over and over again. I bought the full game years later but never finished it because of the time constraints.
I just wanted to survive in a zombie infested mall.
Absolutely. The first time I found out you can drive and drove around the underground parking lot mowing zombies down to then have to fight my way out to safely. Tons of fun. The psychos were great and the alternate endings were fun.
It was the game that got me to buy the 360 back in the day.
Iām a HUGE fan of George Romeros zombie movies, so when I first saw the trailer for this game I was instantly sold. I actually bought it again a few months ago for the PS5 because it was on sale and fell in love with it all over again.
Never got far in this game. It is a full anxiety trigger but maybe I should give it another try.
i remember how two elderly survivors got stuck on the vents on top of the roof trying to help them get to the safe area. They wouldnāt move or anything so i kept spitting on them until they became infected somehow lol
I was obsessed with it, Dawn Of The Dead is probably a top 10 movie for me, the 78 original, so a zombie game set in a mall was a must have, one of the only games I actively set out to get every achievement.
One of my all time favs. Recently played through it again on Steam Deck and it’s still a blast. For those who put it off for the time limits, I hear you. But, you will not “lose” if you mess up. Solving all the cases in time is just 1 of several endings, plus a lot of your stats carry over to your next playthrough, which makes it easier on your next run.
DR2 deserves credit for fixing the survivor AI issues. They don’t get stuck on geometry and can hold their own in a fight (mostly).
