Jumping Flash was one of the first games I played on PS1. It was actually on the demo disc that came with the system. Grandma used to bring me a sandwich and a glass of milk while I played. Those were the days. <3
I remember this mainly because we used to talk about how awesome Super Mario 64 was, and how there wasn’t really any other game like it at the time. But now and again, someone pointed out that Jumping Flash technically predated Mario 64 and basically did the free roaming 3D platformer before it, and did it fairly well for the time.
While I can’t say it holds a candle next to SM64, Jumping Flash was a solid game in its own right. Heck it did well enough to have a sequel, didn’t it?
I only had jumping flash 2, big trouble in little moo. It was weird, but I kept going back to it. Don’t think I ever beat it. Though I remember “beating” it and the levels looped but were suddenly evening or night time? It’s been a while, but that game was weird.
A fantastic game AND a US launch title. I think being a launch title meant it was overlooked by a lot of people, but damn was it a cool way to show off what the console could do.
My dad rented this for me when I was a kid. Back in the day you could rent game systems from Blockbuster, so one day I was informed that Dad had rented me a Playstation and it would be at home after horseback riding, I come home and it was there along with this game I never heard of. I loved it, it was just my type of game. Years later I remember looking for the game, and going to Gamecrazy on the day of Halo 2 released and asking them if they had Jumping Flash. (They didn’t)
It’s not really a game that holds up well, but for the time, it was fascinating.

That Powerpill music was something else man.
Fever dream incarnate, I remember playing but had no idea what the hell was going on
