The difference is that grinding is productive. You’re working toward something you want, not just wasting your time. Work wouldn’t be so bad if you actually got something out of it.
but when im at work if im in a negative headspace 5 minutes feels like 3 hours.
when playing a game im in a positive headspace, doing something fun for something that gives me a phat dopamine rush.
runescape classic was my first grindy game, dear god… how many hundreds of hours did i spent killing guards at varrock, how many hours spent slaying the king black dragon and demons in the catherby dungeon, so many, and i enjoyed it.
Am currently on the job doing a graveyard shift. I don’t get any fulfillment from what I do. It’s a grind in its own right. It just pays me the bare minimum required for me the suck it up.
Playing one of my favorite games on the other hand, say MHW, I’m only there because I want to. No one is placing impossible expectations on me, “currency” comes and goes freely. Every encounter is unique in a way, and I set my own pace. Once I’m in this state of mind I really don’t care for the shiny helmet at the end. The real reward was sending 5 dozen hunters flying with a wyvern shot.
Destiny 2
Runescape
Red dead 2 with the damn , legend of the east satchel. Totally worth it though

For a sec I thought this is a meme about real life and perspectives
War Thunder. It has an absolutely *atrocious* grind.
