For me, it was World at War. I never tired of that version the way I did with others. Black Ops 1 was also good. None of them were bad, some were just better than others.
Black ops 3 for an experienced player who doesn’t mind a bit of a grind because you have to play a lot to get the good gums and level up your guns to become a super power so for someone new, it kinda sucked. The maps, Easter eggs, and smooth gameplay are unmatched.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was my favorite for the maps and gobblegum. Call of Duty: Cold War was my favorite because it was the most innovative and the Outbreak mode.
Black Ops 3 probably. It was the most accessible to players without becoming too easy to be boring. Plus the sheer volume of maps innately on top of the extensive modding scene and massive amount of really well made custom maps and challenge maps making it really fun. I’ve poured an unhealthy amount of hours into some of those maps.
For sheer nostalgia and good memories I’ll say World at War and Black Ops 1.
For creativity and being the most surprising interpretation of CoD zombies I’d have to say it’s a solid tie between Advanced Warfare Zombies and WWII Zombies – both uniquely outset from the main CoD zombies lore and shithousery but both feature truly unique characters and stories especially when taking all of the maps and content into consideration. (WWII Zombies has David Tenant voicing a character, enough said)
Loved all the maps Easter eggs on both of those two games – would probably say WWII trumps advanced warfare in that department though, there’s still one on that which I haven’t quite figured out (Clock Tower) but it’s fun enough to still keep me playing and messing around years later so it’s definitely up there as one of the best versions imo.
I didn’t include BO2, BO3, BO4 or Cold War because black ops as a series lost my interest after BO2, I played it on release sure but I wasn’t as keen on it as I was BO1 because there were a lot of mechanics which were just janky in comparison to it’s predecessor – everything beyond that is just regurgitated garbage of existing concepts from what I’ve seen.
Mode or mod
It’s a hard toss up between Black Ops 1 and 2
You had all the best 935 and Ultimis Crew maps on BO1 – but BO2 has Mob of the Dead and Origins

World at War, because of the mod support.
Black ops 3

Bl3 just for gameplay, so much to do, such variety and my personal two favorite settings for horror, prison and a castle
BO3 gobblegums solid quality. Fun but challenging maps. Still can enjoy some old maps with chronicles map pack
Black ops 3 for sure

For me it was BO3. Great easter eggs, fantastic map designs, lots of fun gameplay mechanics. There’s so much depth to the mode.
Also, it features DLC that allows you to play some of the classics from the older games!
IMO Black ops 1 is just unbeatable
Honest how did a side project Easter egg “the original zombie map” become the basis for a beloved franchise”?
Black Ops 3, you get new Maps and a massive map pack with all the good old maps.

I would say Black Ops 3 as it was during what many would consider the golden age of zombies before the highly disappointing BO4.
Call of Duty United Offensive. Zombie mods were insane. 2nd was CoD 4 Zombie Mods.
black ops 3 is the only right answer cause it comes with waw, bo1, a BO2 Map and all the crazy and unique bo3 maps
For sheer nostalgia and good memories I’ll say World at War and Black Ops 1.
