Said thing is the French had nice food ready for the Brits, while the Brits only had some cups of water. How embarrassing. (Tre story).
I remember watching this on live television.
Why can’t they put one from Great Britain to the east cost of the US? That would be pretty cheap.
For the uninitiated. England and France had 2 giant drills tunneling to each other. They had to meet at exactly the same point without GPS. When the French finished they took the drill back to France. When the UK finished they turned the drill 90 degrees and buried it into the ground.
What’s Jon Oliver doin there?
I remember seeing this on TV. It was/is an important moment in European history.
Shoulda made the tunnel a little bigger!
So….. we have a metric ton of refugees…..
Sacré bleu! We dug here to get rid of ours!
All I can think of is the crushing weight of the ocean over their heads. Phenomenal engineering though 👍
Have ridden the Eurostar both ways….eerily quiet, smooth as silk…once you emerge on the French side the train runs along what we’d call here a rural interstate..big trucks and cars probably doing 80 or so, and the train flies past as if they were standing still….close to 200 mph in places…highly recommended.
Looks like the British side is stealing the French side’s tiny flag
