I saw a post thats 7 years old now and was wondering what movies feel like actual conversation? People talking over each other like this scene in Wolf of Wall Street. It all feels natural and believable, the last few movies Ive seen the pacing feels like its scripted and reminds me its a movie.

The beginning of Reservoir Dogs at the diner where Mr. Pink refuses to tip and explains why. The others discuss why Mr. Pink should tip and both sides of the conversation feels realistic on either to tip or not to tip.
Before Sunrise.
Or that trilogy.
M*A*S*H 1st one where conversations where really talking over one another.
He’s a dick, yes, buy Woody Allen’s movies from the 70s and 80s sound authentically NYC for that time period.
Primer really stood out to me with how natural a lot of the dialogue feels
A great example is **End Of The Tour**, which is basically a series of remarkable conversations.

My dinner with Andre.
Y’all are going to laugh but there is one that sticks in my head.
“UFO Abduction: The MacPherson Tape” has some of the most natural, anxiety and angst driven script writing I’ve ever listened to. One of the original “found footage” tapes, and a leader before its time in creating real-time panic scenarios made believable by a family who saw supernatural events with aliens, possesion, and abduction.
This is the ORIGINAL one; not the hokey-pokey made for Thanksgiving special.
If you come across it, give it a whirl. You’ll get chicken-skin. Be sure that it is the one with the Birthday celebration.
Still freaks me out; even though the director/producer/writer came out with a hoax statement.
I just rewatched Wolf of Wallstreet the other day and was really impressed by the acting in it. From everybody. I don’t think there was a weak performance in that movie. It was so great
Maybe not the whole movie, but I’ve always loved [this scene from Ocean’s 12.](https://youtu.be/2VQZB3taKtY?si=JBtBNPGXw6ZpO7gU) It’s almost like the camera rolled while they were rehearsing—just great, relaxed performances.
Good Time and Uncut Gems, especially the way people shout over each other in chaotic situations
Clerks or Mallrats
Any film by Quentin Tarantino.
Look up any mumblecore movie
The salon scene from Steel Magnolias
Maybe not for the writing, in particular, but more the sound design but McCabe and Mrs. Miller is some of the most naturalistic dialogue I can think of.
Coherence. From the beginning with guests arriving for the dinner party, it almost feels like a documentary
Little Miss Sunshine
The Conversation.
American Psycho. The part when he’s ignoring boring people and then tells them he’s gonna murder them.
Prarie Home Companion was a “meh” movie, but the parts with Meryl Streep/Lily Tomlin were perfection. The way they spoke over each other is how people actually talk, and you rarely see that in movies.
There is a scene in [the Royal Tenenbaums where Ethel and Royal are walking through the park](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bVnOfM1Lpo). There is a single “Ok.” given by Ethel that is without a doubt the most honest piece of acting I have ever scene. The whole minute and a half leads me to believe that these 2 people who were once madly love but now are just friends.
Kes (1969) – if you’ve not seen it, it’s one of the greatest British films ever made.
Noah Baumbach dialogue is often so real to me.
Anything by Ken Loach
It’s silly, but, Jack Burton splitting between talking to everyone in the restaurant and the insurance company on the phone is something I’ve done often.
Maybe not the best example of dialogue, but Citizen Kane was one of the first (if not the first) to have the actors stepping on other people’s lines and cutting them off to make the conversations more natural
Adventureland,Nick and Norah’s infinite playlist,The Apartment,When Harry Met Sally, I ought to be in the pictures, A thousand clowns,Daytrippers, Pieces of April
Anything Altman or Cassavettes.
