I was thinking of this exact premise a few weeks ago. I think this guy explains it well and has some reasons, piracy and iTunes is one I thought of, but not the “prestige TV” bit. His channel is mostly about music and on that he often has some…”polarizing” takes, I’ve found myself annoyed by some but his videos on deep dives of bands and genres are usually good and this is a good one as well.

Death of physical media has got to be the primary cause.

For me, soundtracks offered a commonly known song but done by a much different artist and not available anywhere else. I guess that kinda of happens all the time now w YouTube and such though.
I miss soundtracks.
