Reflections in games, realistic ones, are a thing we started to take as a standard but its a goddamn feat of science on technical level. Ray tracing isn’t just about nVidia GPU, its math and optimization that was in works since the goddamn Golden Eye game. Wet floor is absolutely good graphics
Unironically yes. Reflections are very difficult and taxing. That’s why Ray Tracing is such a break through. Earlier games would simply duplicate the cell or room with a double of the player character to simulate reflections. Silent Hill 2 used this method for all of it’s reflections.
A still image of a wet floor is basically useless but if the game can smoothly render textured asphalt and reflections off the light in real time then yes, that game absolutely has a very advanced graphics engine.
Then there’s the Demon’s Souls remake, where the Valley of Defilement now literally looks like a literal lake of fecal matter. Its no longer just a dark muddy swamp, nope you’re wading through literal shit. It’s actually quite disgusting.
And good graphics must = good game. That’s just how it is, everyone knows there isn’t a single game worth revisiting on the PS1 or N64, since none of those games had good graphics.
To be fair, one of the things that made me realise 3d graphics were the future was the glossy floors in the intro to Unreal.
The system I first saw that on was running 2 Voodoo 2’s in SLI, and it was a long time before I owned a system myself that could do it. I think it took until my first GeForce 2 before I had that intro as buttery smooth as those voodoos did
They look so good, but I don’t think I’ve seen a game do that thing where the reflections of lights on the road get all fuzzy and look like they extend hundreds of feet downwards.
The most redeeming part in Back 4 Blood was the blue tarp on the floor of a bathroom in one of the safehouses. By God, that was a nicely rendered tarp.
The better “graphics” get, the more I realize I never cared for things to look good. Just make the game playable and fun. I’ve had more fun playing 2D flash games than a lot of nice looking modern console/PC games.
I’m always underwhelmed when it’s a driving game, not that they look bad, bt I feel like driving games have been punching above their weight, graphically, since Gran Turismo on the PS1.
Is this an attempt at insulting people who think that well rendered water on the ground is a sign of good graphics? Because it legitimately is a sign of good graphical quality. It’s f****** hard to render water piling up on the ground well.
Texture fidelity isn’t really the thing anymore. Reflections, lighting, shadows, etc…. those are where games have been making more substantial improvements on and the wet floor shots show that lol
I mean… have you seen wet floors in older games lol
This looks like a picture that was edited so yeah, very good graphics
Yes, why is it wrong?
Gotta show off those reflections.
Not wet floor… real time reflections and water physics
Even the reflections have reflections
OP tells us they know absolutely *nothing* about game development, without actually saying so.
If we are playing charades you need to make it a little harder OP

Movies do this too. Want a city to look dramatic and seedy and super urban? Soak down the asphalt for no apparent reason.
Pokemon emerald/ruby/saphire Water reflections blowed my mind as a child

Honorable mention: more sweat added to NBA 2k.

that’s just a typical sony camera user preset
This is not a floor!

There needs to be a line drawn between beauty and realism in video games.
Or they pump a shit ton of volumetric fog into a room and claim it’s the best graphics they’ve ever seen.
Next gen graphics
*Water in every street*
Yeah, that’s not next gen, that’s just putting a bunch of mirrors everywhere
And good graphics must = good game. That’s just how it is, everyone knows there isn’t a single game worth revisiting on the PS1 or N64, since none of those games had good graphics.
Wow! It’s giving me Spiderman flashbacks before they ruined the entire game by deleting that one puddle.
Oh is this from Road Line Painting Machine Simulator 2022? Looks great!
Makes movies look great as well!
Movie productions literally have trucks of water on set to wet streets cause it looks better on camera.
“The graphics look great, but why am I playing a walking simulator?”

Every game has good graphics these days. People need to stop using this as a metric on whether a game is good or not.
Yakuza bread
I’ll never forget the wet roads in Gran Turismo 3 for PS2. That was the biggest incremental step up in wet road graphics to date.
Uhh yeah looks pretty good to me lmao?

Remember the Rain in Gran Turismo on the PS2 oh man that was to die for.
It’s because deep down we want a really good bladerunner type game.
I am talking like 5th element meets Bladerunner wrapped up in Cyberpunk 2077 with a sprinkling of CloudPunk and a dash of No Man’s Sky.
Like the biggest openworld interplanetary Future Punk Nore Genre with hovercars and rain and cyborgs and dystopia.
Need for Speed Underground: Definitive Edition did exactly this.

I spilled some water the other day and it really improved the graphics of my kitchen floor.

Style > Pixel Count + Materials.
Presentation > Graphics

i mean, yes
The point is that they are able to do reflections and lighting and shit. Not that they put water on the floor. Weirdo
If you had any idea how difficult it is to realistically render wet surfaces, especially wet surfaces with rough texture…
This does look absolutely stunning!
Both Super Metroid and Metroid Prime impressed me with the rain effects of all things in the early levels…
Graphics makes the game good, right?
Hey, at least this is a step up from when the trend used to be posting pictures of skyboxes to show how good the graphics were.
Good graphics = amazing game
Of course
