We Gen X’ers were called “slackers” for a reason. Ironically, these couch-locked “kids” now have multiple postgrad degrees. UGA dorm, Athens, 1994.

Love the Dead shirt.
That picture could be me or my friends in high school or college. I fee.like I know them.
I feel like I was in the same room with these people at some point.
The bands R.E.M. & the B-52s are from Athens, GA. Thus concludes my knowledge of Athens, GA.
Did slackers go to college?
Shh – we GenXrs have been ignored since the day we were born and we don’t want to get into the Zoomer vs Boomer whine fest.
That pic looks just like my 1981 first apartment.
Love the Matthew Sweet Altered Beast shirt.
Greetings from Athens!
REM fans no doubt
I mean granted but multiple postgrad degrees are not inconsistent with being a slacker.
The “boomers” (our parents) called us slackers, but most of us did far better than they did. I bought my mom a new house last year.
We do love a couch.
You got a real attitude problem, McFly; you’re a slacker. You remind me of your father when he went here; he was a slacker, too.
I was in Hill Hall that year
I’m an older millennial (36), and I genuinely still think that Gen X is the coolest generation. If I walked into a bedroom that was dimly lit, probably with some odd lighting somewhere- awesome band posters, probably some Calvin Klein ad, smelling of patchouli with The Verve playing, I would pass out right now. For reasons I still cannot comprehend, there were a bunch of teenagers in my neighborhood that just let me hang out with them. They were all the absolute coolest people I’ve ever met. They’ve gone on to do pretty cool things with their lives, even “mundane” cool things like having stable, happy lives with children that genuinely love them. It’s just a generational I’ll always respect. ♥️
I can smell that picture.
That’s Walt Jr. though dude
I assume a lot time was spent listening to Neutral Milk Hotel be a start up band with Avery Island.
Great times in Athens
All you need is a bong and a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon on the board. 🙂
I have a similar picture. Our crew ended up with a couple engineers, a lawyer, a few teachers, an acountant.
My husband has that exact same grateful dead shirt!! He bought it online (ebay i think) and wears it every time we see dead & co! He gets tons of compliments and people asking if they can buy it from him.
Proud of being GenX, I identify a lot with this pic
Which dorm?!
Um. I have a Masters and a JD. I’m still a slacker.
I lived this image 95-99 in the dorms. I can smell the weed and taste the Harpoon IPAs. Gen X, specifically those born around ‘76-82, had the amazing experience to be old enough to remember TVs without cable or remotes and phones with cords, but young enough to adapt quickly to the digital/internet era. I feel very fortunate
Back when you had to cut your memes out of the newspaper and hang them on the wall.
The fuck is John Stamos doing there?
32yo millennial here. Ive always felt that Gen X was the coolest generation. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in that perception.
Those are some old school doc martens too!
This was my Athens experience exactly but my Athens was in Ohio. That girl is totally smoking a camel light and you guys are saving the camel cash.
Dude on the right is Flynn from Breaking Bad.
Athens was fun in 1994! Go Dawgs!
Us gen X folks are built different.
Can confirm!
Am Gen X, total slacker, only two degrees.
Gen X, we always been the cool, forgotten kids. No one even remembers us.
Slacker generation indeed, over educated and under employed.
