I finally played this game this year and I think it was a good game, I never tried it before cause people always told me it was bad but I decided to give it a try, for my surprise it was good, I liked the story, the characters and most of the features of the game, the only thing I think is bad is the driving, Watchdogs is not the GTA rival Ubisoft promised to make but it’s quite a decent game.

No. Literally everything from development to marketing literally everything to do with the game needed to be done better and not in a lying predatory way. The people that were making the version no one would ever be able to play and the people advertising it as the version you would play all dropped the ball.
you move that goalpost from good to decent pretty quick
in a vacuum its probably an above average game, better than volitions saints row 1 as breaking into the genre is hard
context and uplay left a bad taste
the bullshot trailer, graphical downgrade, they had a transphobic person doing a podcast (since removed), and how repetitive the missions are
aiden is an angsty monotone asshole using his niece as an excuse to do whatever he wants
It sure is, I find it somewhat more enjoyable to play than GTA V because I’m not a very creative player to fully exploit GTA. And the MC in Watchdogs is so powerfull and provided with many tools for a noob like me to enjoy lol.
So yeah personally, Watchdogs > Gta V (I love both games tho)
I still remember the hype. I personally thought it was okau
WD2 was too cringey character-wise, but is pretty decent too.
The first game had one of the best progress trackers I’ve ever seen in a game. Completing 100% was a treat for the progress wheel alone.
What I liked to do is park a fire truck kitty cornered in the center of a 4 way intersection, then Turn all the lights green. Everyone at the at the intersection is like “oh well, green means ‘go’!” and all slam into the parked fire truck.
The problem with watchdogs was that they way over promised in what you would be able to do. Also Aiden Pearce needed a better backstory and motivations.
In a vacuum, it’s an… alright game. The story is passable, and the characters certainly do stuff. It’s just kind of boring, when you think about it- but in practice, it was a ginormous letdown.
I like it a lot
One of my fav games, replaying it right now lol
One of my favorite game ever. I’ve played it so many times and I never get bored of it.
I absolutely love this game, I think people don’t like it because they think it takes itself too seriously but it’s so campy and stupid that I can’t help but have a blast! Except when recruiting tbone I fucking hate that whole section – Pawnee, ew
Watch dogs 2 was a solid fun play. I just wish it wasnt quite so comical and goofy.
First one was good. Second expanded the gameplay, but the story tanked. What was especially frustrating is that the legacy and lore established in the 1st part is shat on in the very tutorial mission. It is as they got new writers who had only learned about the 1st part from the Wiki page.
I liked it
It was okay game, people just hated the fact that trailer was faked and released game was nothing like it graphically, plus bugged. So typical ubisoft release that killed interesting project. Although game itself was fine 🙂
I always enjoyed playing the online modes, my “secret sauce” was to always purchase an armored truck at the start of matches, it was always impossible for enemies to crash, and extremely easy to destroy the vehicles of others. I think I spent nearly a thousand hours on WD1.
Bought it on the Steam Deck recently and enjoying it again. I don’t really remember the initial promises/footage so I’ve just enjoyed what’s there and not had the displeasure of having been over promised.
I really enjoyed both 1 and 2. Not the greatest games ever, but both very fun, I want to replay both one day. Liked the atmosphere, and a lot of mechanics were enjoyable too.
I missed the whole pre-release hype so I didn’t come into the game with heightened expectations, but looking back of course if would have been even better if they had done what they advertised in the first place.
It’s an Ubisoft game, that means it’s fun as hell but everything else is neglected. The world is just copy and pasted assets that lack character and don’t really sell you on the scale of Silicon Valley. The story and characters are god awful. The driving is shit like the first game.
I think it “had potential”. It’d just need to be made by a studio and publisher who actually cares.
It was “okay”. Not shit, but not great. I finished it once and never touched it again after that. I don’t think i can remember anything story related…his daughter was killed and he went for revenge or something like that?
It got the exact credit it deserved
The sequels ruined the franchise. The first had promise.
I think a big part of what turned people off from Watch_Dogs was the E3 / Release comparison.
If I’m being honest, I didn’t even care, I loved Watch_Dogs.
>it’s quite a decent game.
That part there was the issue. People expected GTA with hacking and they got a decent, not great, game. Also the false advertisement with graphical downgrades for the final product was a big deal.
I quite enjoyed it. WD 2 was terrible and WD 3 had the TAKE CONTROL OF ANYONE~ gimmick but was like the first game, decent at best.
Damn I’m actually old enough to encounter people who were young enough to be nostalgic for that shit.
Great game, its just the graphical downgrade that put a bad taste in peoples mouths. Funny enough, in cyberpunk 2077, i modled my netrrunner build after watch dogs.
The serial killer side story had incredible music
I’d never heard of it, and knew nothing about the E3 footage.
I bought it on a whim because I like Ubisoft open world games, and really enjoyed it.
It was certainly better than Legion, and I would like W2 more if the main characters weren’t so annoying.
The city, story and characters are really good. Gameplay too. Second game is better gameplay.
First one was 10x better than the second one. The gen-z bullshit, twitch and fucked up teen-style they had going was annoying as fuck.
Don’t have high expectations like me and you will never be disappointed
No it didnt. It was completely falsely advertised, both in gameplay features and graphics. That deserves every ounce of hate. This was during Ubisofts 5 year spree of false advertised games. AC3, FC3, Bkack Flag, Watch Dogs, Rainbow 6, The Division, Wildlands.
I actually had a lot of fun with the little online hide and seek mode
