This is very sweet
I wish I had a grandpa
Looks amazing. Hope it doesn’t have airflow issues.
Bro that looks sick
Gramps fucks
Grandpa did great! Beautiful work.
It’s never worth posting a console setup on Reddit. It could be in an open field with multiple industrial strength fans hitting it from every direction and people would still tell you it will overheat from lack of ventilation
this will be fine for a while but it will drastically shorten the console’s life, that ventilation is not adequate. You’re going to be saying “see bro it’s totally fine” for a while until it dies in 12 or 18 months.
Console already has poor airflow…
They tell you not to put the Xbox in enclosed spaces for ventilation, and you’ve went and put it in a little box ….
Maybe if it was like a cast iron box it might be able to radiate the heat away, but the little fans inside the Xbox are not going to be able to evacuate the heat out of that little enclosure quickly enough.
Even if the Xbox “doesn’t vent” directly thru the top of its case, it still leaks a little bit of heat out of every one of its faces. All the faces that you’ve now went and closed up. Your box needs to look like Swiss cheese, OR have like 3” of clearance around the edges, OR have a built in fan to help the Xbox’s fan
Very cool. Grandparents can just be the sweetest people in the world sometimes.
It looks nice but your Xbox is gonna cook.
He screwed those three pieces of wood together perfectly… god bless
what a pretty way to overheat your console
Grandpa’s and woodworking.
Mine made me a Thomas the Tank Engine bridge so I could have trains go over another track for me.
I think at the time, there was one you could buy but it was some odd $80 for it and this was back around 2000 so that’s $140 or something now. Cost him maybe $1 worth of wood. He had all the tools already. Still have it wherever the train set has gone to in my long list of family.
Airflow?
Alright fine, I will be the guy…
It’s three pieces of wood screwed together with some holes drilled in it, which doesn’t even allow you center your monitor on it. And while we’re at it, why is the hole for your cords in front of it?
Whats that thing with buttons in the back right? A new kinda controller? Really neat stand BTW.
It’s probably going to overheat. Yes, I see he put air holes in it but that’s nowhere near enough. It basically needs to be in an open space to get proper air flow. You basically put it in a coffin.
Cute but really bad idea.
Super cool of pops. Personally I wouldn’t risk it overheating like that though. It would need to be mostly holes to be acceptable. It’s just not enough really
Sarcophagus of death even with the drilled holes.
The countersinking on those screws is very aesthetically pleasing
Airflow going to be an issue even with the vents
OP’s gonna get bombarded with comments about bad ventilation.
cherish and love him while you can. Lost mine a few years ago due to cancer. I should have spent much more time with him instead of working hard.
Very nice but if I was you I would add some holes for more airflow just to be on the safe side.
You have the coolest grandpa dude
With proper holes. Very nicely done
How amazing, I miss my grandpas. However it has a good chance you will found out processors are working with smoke and if it runs out, it won’t turn on again.
Next time just don’t bother with posting your set ups people on reddit get way too pissy and stuck up. They point out every small detail while having a superiority complex. It’s fucking pathetic
This looks like an overheat waiting to happen
I work in a wood shop and can tell you that took all but 10 minutes to build. You would be surprised how easy making things from wood actually is, woodworking is one of the better hobbies to pick up IMO
Cool asf but where’s the airflow?
Nice but airflow will be a problem.
Y’all easily impressed lol
Microsoft reccomends a minimum of 4-6 inches of clearance on all sides for most Xbox models. For models with external power supplies, the power supply also needs room for proper venting.

As an engineer who designed equipment racks for a few years, I personally would use the upper end of the minimum clearance reccomendation (6 in) if at all possible.
