Walking Dead Destinies Strange Moments

  • I’ve loved Walking Dead ever since I read the comics and then watched the show years ago. I loved every Telltale Walking Dead game. I even enjoyed the FPS one they made. I’m pretty forgiving when it comes to Walking Dead, so I was prepared to see hilariously bad character models after seeing the trailers for this game. “As long as it plays well, I should find enjoyment out of it!” I thought to myself.

Well, the game is very clunky and buggy. I had to remove too much aim sensitivity because even without the auto-lock on, there’s a weird stuttering thing going on when you move the mouse so it’s very hard to manually aim at a zombie’s head. You’d want to stick to using melee weapons because of this, but at the start of the game, using melee attacks can drain your stamina quickly, leaving you helpless against zombies. Sometimes, there’s a “lag” or delay with your key presses, so if you somehow pressed the attack key twice, you’ll perform two attacks even if you want your character to move away from an incoming zombie.

The fun part comes in the weird bugs you can find in the game. From time to time, you’ll see zombies spinning in place if you get their attention. Zombies are also not meant to be able to climb objects or get past crawl spaces, but sometimes, due to a weird bug, they’ll slowly get “teleported” where they’re not supposed to be. Sometimes, the zombies will get trapped on shopping carts, unable to free themselves, while chasing an invisible thing, which can be funny. The rare times you encounter npcs in an active stage, they’re usually so lifeless just like the zombies. There’s even a time when Morgan can be seen flying while shooting at you (I guess that’s how he survived all this time!). The ending is also buggy! In my playthrough, I allowed Carl to die, but in the ending I got, I was shown that I was running away with Carl!

After you finish the game, if you try to start a new game (Rick waking up in the hospital) and immediately reload from the last checkpoint, you’ll somehow be using Michionne’s character model!

Anyway, as a zombie fan, I really think this game could have been great, but unfortunately, the quality just sucks so bad. It’s like the difference between a Beef Wellington cooked by Gordon Ramsay and a chef who doesn’t care. All the ingredients are there, the idea mainly, to make a great Walking Dead, but just not enough care was given to actually fully realize its potential. Had a game dev team who actually cared about quality worked on this game, it would’ve been one of the best Walking Dead games available. Too bad the opportunity was wasted.

This is only a game that I can recommend to zombie and Walking Dead fans who are extremely forgiving and has positive bias towards Walking Dead. This isn’t something that can be appreciated by just the common gamer due to its horrible quality.
