Yeah yeah animals can not have emotions blah blah blah.
Fuck people who say animals are incapable of that.
I tried to find more information about this photo. The only thing definitive I found was that the park warden/caretaker (not technically a ranger) is named Patrick Karabaranga and that the photo was most likely taken in 2012.
I did find [an article from 2017](https://www.iwmf.org/reporting/meet-the-vets-risking-their-lives-to-treat-wild-gorillas/) that discusses the veterinarians who care for the gorillas and the challenges they both face. It includes a more recent photo of Karabanga with a sedated gorilla on his back.

Sad to say it but I feel like this thread will get locked soon
Damn โฆ thatโs really sad
Really moving picture
Need to poach the poachers
Virunga on Netflix is a fucking incredible documentary about everything that goes down in the park.
It’s insane that people don’t understand gorillas have largely the same brains and brain functions we do. The difference being they don’t have the same larynx as humans.
I wish there were drone patrols taking out rhino/ape/elephant poachers.
This is beautiful picture, very moving
The human capacity for empathy is astounding
Apes together strong

Fuck poachers – they need to be caught, disarmed, and put in a cage with the animals they were hunting.
Whatโs to gain by killing these magnificent animals?
Just breaks my heart , god I hate poachers so much
I will forever remember this photo
So sad!
Keep the hope alive Africa and Virunga.
Just heartbreaking
Poor darling. It should be open season on poachers ๐น๐บ
Poor fella

What a picture, what a connection.
Is it OK to hunt poachers?
So sad ๐ข
Yeah I had a psychology professor who was adamant animals can’t show emotion. We had a term paper to do where we agree for or against a topic during the semester. I choose to argue that animals definitely had the ability to consciously and logically feel emotions.
They should adopt the very effective strategy employed by rangers in India: poachers are shot on sight.
What a fuckin g
That’s sadder than hearing about people dying. Poor little gorilla.
This picture breaks my heart ๐

The work they do helps to keep that little amount of faith i have left for humanity.
Fuck. Man. As a parent this hits hard. Poor guy just wants his mama
This is very sad but certainly looks like a meme format
