Very cool early ’80s clip of Suzanne Ciani using synths to create the soundtrack for the Xenon pinball game

That may very well have been the horniest pinball machine of the 1980s.
here is a xenon game play video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay7QRh-MBzE
and a map of locations with xenon to play https://www.pinballmap.com/map?by_machine_id=726&by_machine_name=Xenon+(Bally%2C+1979)
Love the arpeggiator at the beginning.
Hoping to find a woman like this for i dunno marriage or something
Her Album Seven Waves is one of my all-time favorites. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RusmM57kAJ4&list=PLJPztq7aAo9yis1OnYgI04ex2WVp0zBWo
Pinball machines are such awesome mechanical pieces of equipment. I grew up wanting to own one some day, but now that I’m grown up they are still crazy expensive for a decent one. The digital ones are neat and more reasonable but just not the same
Love those clacky computer keys, like lofi clogs
Her show at Ambient Church last year was mind blowing, if you get a chance to see her live I highly recommend it
“She makes music by touching buttons.” Isn’t playing a piano just touching buttons?
I have a pristine Xenon pinball game in my basement.
Bought it used in the mid 80’s from a distributor.
Here she is on [3-2-1 Contact](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJiTDhOTamo).
She still makes music and occasionally performs.
Is that shot of code just something someone made up for tv?
“`100 tempo 4=120“`
What language allows you to set one literal to an other literal? Or is tempo a function that takes in parameters? Very weird syntax either way.
“Try tube shot” – what is this that I’m feeling.
This was my favourite table when I played it at uni 81-82.
I remember playing this in arcades. The memory actually invokes smells, sounds, and generally feeling back then. It’s not THE pinball memory I have though. That would be 8-Ball Deluxe. “Stop talkin’ and start chalkin’.” I also remember playing the Playboy one quite a bit.
I have the uncontrollable urge to try a tube shot
Holy shit I need a cigarette after watching that…
Neat
Love seeing this rising in /r/videos !
Suzanne Ciani is (in my opinion) the greatest synthesist in the history of the instruments. A highly prolific, creative and groundbreaking body of work that cascades influence. I don’t think any other electronic music pioneer that pushed the field as far as she did.
[Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyCMvV260bs) is a more recent improv jam. It’s awesome to know she’s still around, still teaching and making records.
Th best part…

She has an “Ara Ara” voice but in English
Sound chips in their earrings….well wireless pods I guess
Badass!
“In the future woman with sound chips in their earrings will Beethoven Symphonies”
It’s kinda funny how he quasi-described wireless earbuds.
Sadly the video doesn’t show much about the process itself, but it’s cool anyway.
First time I’ve heard of her but she’s a sonic pioneer!!!
Well thanks this just made me want a cool gf
Ciani is also featured in the recent documentary https://sisterswithtransistors.com/
My dad has this pinball machine in our basement. I’d be downstairs on our family computer as a kid, and it would randomly go, “TRY ME AGAIN!” and scare the shit out of me. 💀
I remember that game well, dropped a lot of quarters in it, not so much for game play but because of the cool sound tech, there was really nothing quite like it at the time.
Reminds me of [Laurie Anderson O Superman](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkfpi2H8tOE)
Her vocal “air” sounds so much more alluring than modern vocal fry.
