  • He was sent back to the US to sell war bonds after earning the Medal of Honor. After that he became a drill instructor to help train Marines prepping for the invasion of Japan. His enlistment ended and he could have gone home but he decided to reenlist. He deployed during the invasion of Iwo Jima and was killed in action. A national hero.
