  • Honestly just make breeding these illegal, they’re lightning rods for moron owners. I feel terrible for the little girl but zero sympathy for the crying adults, if you still think getting a pit bull in this day and age is a good idea, you’re a moron. Full stop.

And let’s be honest – most people that get pits get them BECAUSE of their tough scary reputation, not because “omg they’re such cute gentle babies and goochie goochie.”

  • “they had never done anything like this before”

I love how this is always the comment after one of these attacks. I just want to ask them how many times they themselves have heard that from pit owners that were attacked. Why should you be any different?

  • Stop fuckin breeding your stupid pit bulls! We don’t have to kill the ones that are alive I guess, but there needs to be a giant fine for breeding these things. You get caught with a puppy after a certain date and your ass goes to jail.

  • As soon as pet owners are criminally liable for the actions of their pets, *as if the owners committed those acts themselves,* people can own whatever pet they want.

“But no one can control their pets all the time.”

    Exactly.

  • I was attacked by a pitbull this summer. The owner didn’t want to take responsibility, begged us not to call the police/animal control or sue. We did both. The dog was unleashed in his front yard and ran a block away to attack me and my dog, walking peacefully on the public sidewalk completely unprovoked (no barking/growling). The dog took me down to the ground, bit so hard that it broke my wrist and exposed the bones in my arm and hand. I was off of work for 6 weeks (doctors orders).

Animal control ended up doing nothing, beyond ordering a 10 day quarantine of the dog. We sued the owner (still ongoing) as our only form of justice. I wanted to make a public post on social media, alerting the neighborhood of this dog and his proclivity to violence. My lawyer, who specializes in dog bites, insisted I omit any reference to the dogs bread or pictures because the pitbull apologists would come out of the woodworks to defend their dogs breed, and even go so far as to harass anyone that insinuates anything negative about them. I thought he was being dramatic, but decided not to post anything to avoid any social media drama. Seeing the reddit pitbull apologists makes me glad I didn’t. Pitbull owners are delusional.

  • Let me tell you story about Enzo. He’s a 8 week old big ole goofball of golden fluff. Towering over other puppies his age. My wife is excited. He’s the biggest. Gotta have him. Great. Take him home, he’s a cuddle bug. His favorite toy? Munching sticks he finds outside. Try and get him to play with balls is fruitless. He won’t even chase a tennis ball. We try to get him to retrieve. Nothing. Big golden fucker (loveable) just doesn’t care. He’s got his “sausages on a rope” toy and that’s all that matters. Oh. That and sticks. So we think, ok. “We’ve got a broken golden retriever. He won’t even bring back a ball.” Fine. We give up.

Months pass and he is now a 6 month old pup. Looks almost like a lab. Goofy, off cantered, extremely clumsy, and paws way bigger than he’s ready for. You know what this guy starts doing? He starts bringing back things when we toss them away. Before he would take his sticks or sausage and just waddle away. Then, puberty hits and this dude just all of a sudden remembers his job title. He’s like “bro, you know this action of throwing things away? We’ll, something inside of me says I ought to bring it back to you.”

Yeah. We didn’t have to teach him anything. I mean he’s “smart,” but he didn’t need to be taught to retrieve. He just figured it out. His nature told him. His instinct told him that this is what he was born to do (eating, being loveable, and sneaking into the bed as well).

Thing is, dogs were bread with certain physical features and characteristics to be what they are. I don’t see a lot of dachshunds nipping at heels trying to herd. What do I see them do? Bury. Bury like a fucking pro. They sleep in their little blanket caves. Aussies- man those energy bundles will go all day. They have a natural instinct to encircle, lead, and move things. Shit even Dobermanns and Rottweilers have that natural instinct to protect their environment. You see it at a young age. It’s undeniable.

Dogs were bread for a purpose. That doesn’t go away. Pitbulls we’re unfortunately bred to be attackers. Fearless attackers. That’s what they do. And they excel at it. Nothing against them. But many countries have successfully limited dangerous breeds that don’t belong in the city or suburbs. Not a breed elitist here. Don’t care if you want a doodle, Maltese or whatever. You do you. But if you want a big dog that’s gonna protect you but still be manageable, at least do the research and get something like a rotti, malamute, mastiff, etc. not a literal weapon x bred for one thing only. (Btw the above breeds might not be good, don’t know. I’m a golden retriever guy).

Long story short. Yes. It. Is. The. Breed.

  • I used to prosecute dog attack tickets and appeals of dangerous dog determinations by animal care and control in Chicago. Not all, but most were pit bulls.

One of the most horrific things I had ever seen was an old lady whose entire calves had been all but destroyed by two pit bulls. Had reconstructive surgery to at least patch up her legs, but it was awful.

Otherwise, plenty of dogs slain by pitties, children attacked, etc.

I’ve personally known some really sweet and loving pit bulls. But as a breed, the dogs are menaces to society. People shouldn’t be allowed to own them as pets.

  • – More dog bites per capita than any breed.
    – It “may” be training, but clearly some dogs need more training than others.
    – Some breeds are known for herding,j7 searching, fetching, running, excitement or happiness… Which means some breeds can be known for aggression just the same. Welcome to the entire *point* of selective-breeding.

Anyone who says their dog, especially their pitbull, is safe or won’t bite.. Don’t **ever** trust them.

Something else I’ve noticed is the trend that these dogs, again pitbulls in particular, when raised in pairs exhibit far more pack aggression. Maybe it’s that they don’t imprint themselves as humans.

I find conservatives are overwhelmingly the predominant group who continues to push lies about pitbulls and how safe they are… They are very uninformed.

Edit: By the way, I’ve been hospitalized as a child from a German Shepherd. I still don’t hold a grudge against them. I’ve been around Dobermans, Rottweilers, huskies, and so on… But I recognize all dogs are dangerous and *especially pitbulls.*
