Nice sunny winter day, some physical exercise, the samovar already waiting with hot tea inside, what could be better.
Too bad all it took a rather grim turn later on.
“Don’t touch that blade!!!!”
Interesting. The Russian word for King. Kind of a ME twist.
In ancient Sumerian, Sar means king.
Ki-sar would mean something like earth-king. King of Earth.
Sar in say Assyrian/Babylonian would mean prince.
Tsar , like Kaisar (Caesar), looks like a modern Semitic spelling of the borrowed word. Interesting.
To any Russians out thre: Was there any time, especially during the Stalin years, that there was widespread regret about the revolution?
Nicholas II aka “Nicholas the Bloody” after “Bloody Sunday” massacre in 1905
I am nearing the end of reading The Romanovs by Simon Sebag Montefiore, and if anyone has the slightest bit of interest in the dynasty or Russian history, it’s an absolute must-read. Makes Game of Thrones seem like Blue’s Clues.
