From Wikipedia:
> The Harlan County War, or Bloody Harlan, was a series of coal industry skirmishes, executions, bombings and strikes (both attempted and realized) that took place in Harlan County, Kentucky, during the 1930s. The incidents involved coal miners and union organizers on one side and coal firms and law enforcement officials on the other. The Harlan County coal miners campaigned and fought to organize their workplaces and better their wages and working conditions. It was a nearly decade-long conflict, lasting from 1931 to 1939. Before its conclusion, an unknown number of miners, deputies and bosses would be killed, state and federal troops would occupy the county more than half a dozen times, two acclaimed folk singers would emerge, union membership would oscillate wildly and workers in the nation’s most anti-labor coal county would ultimately be represented by a union.
Apologies I don’t have a higher-resolution image.
You’ll never leave Harlan alive.
State of US in 2031 probably.
During the Battle for Blair Mountain a decade earlier, The US Army dropped chemical weaponry left over from The Great War onto striking miners at the behest of coal bosses, they also employed machine guns and armored cars in an attempt to eradicate every last one of them.
They hired actual mercenaries to evict strikers and literally *burned the possessions of the evicted* in giant piles in the middle of the streets.
What were the supposed crimes of these striking miners you ask? The desire to be paid in US legal tender instead of imaginary bullshit company tokens which could only be spent at the company store which was already marked up substantially to ensure the company always got its money back.
Housing was also controlled by the company as-well. Membership of a union was grounds for immediate termination, which in turn meant immediate eviction.
Workers would very frequently work upwards of 90+ hours a week, sometimes 20+ hours in a single shift.
Never forget the sacrifices made to get to where we are today, and always remember that without unions and accountability, your job would kill you to save a few cents. You are nothing to them, a speck on the ass of a fly completely devoid of value beyond your labor.
*Which side are you on, boys. Which side are you on*
I think I got the black lung, pop
So you know when you join the troops what your job really is.
Fuck scabs
Which side are you on?
Based and coal-pilled
They say in Harlan county there are no neutrals there

Don’t scab for the bosses, don’t listen to their lies

What is going to happen the next depression?
Justified callout
Harlan KY, land of the Chevy Cavalier…
Free enterprise capitalists don’t want the government involved unless they’re there to violently control workers.
Then yes, they very much love government involvement.

Matewan is a fantastic movie which dramatizes the [Battle of Matewan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Matewan) in 1920 in West Virignia.
10/10 would watch again.
There are two types of people.
Those that support the union, and scummy fascist scabs.
Solidarity forever!
UMWA, baby! My dad and grandpa were proud members and fought so hard for all the safety regulations we take for granted now.
This picture is one characteristic, but a very important characteristic of fascism. Anti-labor, anti-union, anti-collective bargaining.
The fascist capitalist believes that he, not labor provides the value add that is created from raw materials. He believes that he is entitled to all of the value add surplus and the left overs, the crumbs that drop from the table are the wages of labor.
This is in spite of that fact that without labor, there is nothing manufactured from raw materials or there are no raw materials at all. In addition, labor is both the work and the consumer. The capitalist cannot be a capitalist without raw materials, products and consumers all of which labor provides. Labor is the most important input of all economic activity.

Although these aren’t cops, it’s important to remember “protect and serve” has never been about us, it has always been about protecting *property* and serving *capital owners*

I remember my Great-Grandfather telling me about this. He was a miner.
I thought striking minors was child abuse
The thing no one talks about is conditions for the working class don’t improve until people start getting killed.
God bless our capitalistic values… /s

Bloody fuckin Harlan.
Its insane to me how anti union is still a thing in most workers, the fact we even have them is paid for in blood. More people need to realize this.
Union, good.
If you work for someone anti union, bad.
Class traitors, just like cops today!
If there was ever a question in your mind as to whose side the government is on…it’s not the proletariat. Historically in American the govt has sided with the capitalists, which makes sense considering they’re the ones who control the government. The working class are treated like peasants.
and that’s why you need unions.
Peak capitalism
