I went there in 1990! Got my passport stamped at checkpoint Charlie and some of the wall was still up. Took a few chunks which are now in a ziplock bag in the attic. Cool picture!
I remember going into a shop in 1987; nice wood paneling and display cases, like for jewelry. They had things like *toothbrushes* on display. I remember the cola being terrible and the sausages -German sausages!- too.
But you could tell things were changing. A row of flats was being renovated right next to the wall and looked really hip.
My wife and I got married that year and were camping our way across the US as a long honeymoon, paying pretty much zero attention to world news. When we hit Key West I spotted the headline about the Berlin Wall in a newspaper rack. It was a surreal wtf Twilight Zone experience.
I was there. Going through checkpoint charlie was a bit creepy at the time. Glad I was able to see it though. Stayed near Dresden.and then went to Prague.
Palast der Republik!
I just took a picture there when I was visiting about two weeks ago!
Wonderful space.
You look like Engels had his fly open

I would love to have a beard like that…
I can’t get nearly that good of a mustache
Statues for 2 of the worst people ever
You actually witnessed a part of history being made! Wonderful Legacy! 🙂
Very cool. I’ve got a chunk of the wall with graffiti painted on it.
The statue still stands not far from here.
Might I ask, were you from West Germany or somewhere else?
