A little bit of context, Mt st helens erupted in May 1980, and lost a huge portion of the mountain from a massive landslide, the dome is roughly the center of the Mountain, and is growing due to Volcanic activity
I was a senior high school when there were a series of minor eruptions at St. Helens in ’04. I lived in a town in the south metro area of Portland and we could see the ash cloud rising up from here. It was SUPER cool.
I’ve always been fascinated by volcanos and glaciers. I remember taking Earth Sciences in University. Way more interesting than I thought it would be. Geology Rocks.

It’s hard to comprehend the magnitude of force involved in birthing a mountain. That’s beautiful footage.
I’ll bet there were people complaining ‘the government is wasting our tax dollars taking pictures of mountains’ while this data was being collected.
Neat!

Hmm needs a banana for scale

That was 15 years ago, what does it look like now?

Gaia is prairie dogging again. This never ends well for the bipeds.
What did it mean by that?
That is so growing incredibly fast. I did not expect that at all.
OK, one of the most fascinating things I’ve seen for years.
Volcanoes are such an 80’s thing, i am ready for the nostalgia to erupt.
So I should be concerned if I ever notice a mountain doing this?
I highly recommend visiting St. Helens. You can’t hike into the crater for obvious reasons but you can get really close.
I’m *really* into dome growth rn…

Kinda curious how long it would take to regrow back to what it was pre-1980.
So do they think it will erupt again similar to before?
lol every time i climb that fucking thing im always like “remember this one it may be the last”
It’s like the earth is pushing out a turd
It looks like a kaiju is going to emerge from there and fight Godzilla.
Mildly terrifying.
Liquid hot magma.
Seeing the earth grow made my human endeavors seem inconsequential.

Seeing this really peaks my interest.

It is much easier to see if you increase the playback speed to 3x.
