A scene so good it literally broke the show into pieces. The people making it didn’t know what to do with it, and immediately got scared of it, and they essentially just imploded the whole show as a result.
Not a lot of actors can put that on their resume. Then again, it’s not like having that on the resume has made Orlando Jones feel any better about how *he* got fucked by the people making this show, either.
I haven’t watched the show, but just guessing: is Mr Nancy and shorthand/renaming of Kwaku Ananse?
That show was a bit of a mess but man, it had some seriously memorable stuff in it. They were so close.
“ angry gets shit done” one of my favorite lines
This speech changed my perspective. I consider myself to be progressive and I hate racism, but the “You don’t even know you’re black!” just reset everything I thought I knew. Like it’s just insane that the whole system is set so that you have to be a black man, a hispanic woman, an asian male, or whatever. We’re battling trying to say that black people are the same as white people, without even fully realizing that making the argument on those terms is in itself part of the problem. We just accept that the perceived differences take precedent over the fact that they’re a person.
Systemic racism has become a whole lot more visible now. And I still don’t think we realize how deeply rooted it is.

This show had so much potential. I hate how dysfunctional the production ended up being. Could’ve been one of the defining shows of the decade if it ran to a proper conclusion.

Incredible scene, but nothing like Mr. Nancy from the books. I was fine with that though, it was a decent change. But for him to have the same narrative as the book, the best casting would be Morgan Freeman looking as old and frail as possible.

Orlando Jones was absolutely fantastic in this show and firing him was the surest sign this show was going to go to shit.

I wish that show was never cancelled
Expert writing. Season one was a gem. I wish the show was treated with more respect by the network and thus the show runners would have stayed. This show could have truly been great.
I was not aware that Orland jones could act prior to seeing that, but good god. I know it’s a “big” performance, but let’s be real he’s playing a god here, and maybe it’s gauche to recognize that one as THE ONE, but I don’t care. He fucking kills this so hard. I wish this were indicative of the rest of the show, but nah. These moments are always welcome though.
I always thought his [Snatch](https://youtu.be/1BmROJ2gt8o?si=t_wyO4VbBGTSf1WQ) soliloquy was much more powerful. Sobering.
