I googled and found that expert Minesweeper has 99 mines and is 16×30 (480) tiles. I’m not sure what Minesweeper you are playing, but if we use the data for expert Minesweeper, then 1 out of every 4.85 tiles is a mine. If we assume that mines are placed entirely at random (and ignore the math regarding the edges), then it’s a 1 in 306150 chance that a tile will be surrounded by 8 mines. Since there are 480 tiles on a board, that would mean around only 1 out of around 638 boards would have an 8 mine tile.
Rare but not too much of a challenge. Problem with 8 is you’d need to find all the other mines first before you mark off that centre block. Until then it is basically Schrodinger’s Mine haha

I’ve played a lot of minesweeper and never got a 9!

I hadn’t worked out if getting an 8 was a good omen or a harbinger of doom
I’ve seen a couple of 8s, but not in the Microsoft version.
Pretty sure I’ve seen 8 a total of one time in the 20+ years I’ve been playing.
