There’s a few instances of publishers not releasing review copies weeks out from launch, or certain NDA’s on Alphas/Betas, but I wouldn’t say either of those fit ” critics are silenced”.
The betrayal part varies on a game to game and or publisher to publisher basis. Cuz what I’ve seen so far in this sub is like majority FPS games are shitted on, which idrc about cuz I don’t play FPS or multiplayer games anyway. Cyberpunk being the exception but that game never looked good enough for me to preorder anyway.
You’re more likely to trust fromsoft than someone like activision or blizzard yknow
What people need to be doing is not going out to pre-order shameless cash grabs. Also stop rushing developers when they say something isn’t ready it needs to be a year or two before game launch give the year or two.
this is only true for TODAYS gaming world. blame the rise of tech, social ads/media and game companies ability to over hype due to the strength of media. combine this with pre-madonna whiney childish gamers who have crazy expectations, and who all go nuts on social media (good or bad)..and well there you have it. as usual the bad will outweigh the good in comments in social media.
it was more normal back in they day where the game was announced, you got excited (with way less expectations), got the game and ENJOYED IT for what it was. (gaming co’s also didn’t over promise / under deliver as much then either). but still….everyone today is just so over the top when it comes to post releasing whining. everyone has an opinion that in the grander scheme of things DOESNT MATTER. try it/buy it..if you like it, play it. if you don’t, return it and take the money hit, not everyone has to know you think it sucks balls.
i feel it’s a combo of how groomed young folks are today as a culture and gaming, plus the factors i mentioned above.
Yeah idk. I stopped pre-ordering because it’s not like you’re at risk of not getting a digital copy. And why would I care about a pre-order bonus that’s just a skin I’ll never use. Or a gun that will be outclassed by base game stuff within a couple hours of game play?
But some people do it 🤷♂️ not my place to tell them how to lose their money.
I’m at a state where I don’t pre-order anymore, I wait until it’s released for at least a day or so and check the reviews as any sensible person should. I did that for a God of war on PC (played it back on PS4) to make sure it was a good port, saw the next day with 2000 overwhelmingly positive reviews, clicked buy, satisfied…
Oh trailers out -> game comes out -> Forget about the game for a year or two -> steam sale -> oh yeah that game was a thing -> read latest review -> buy game at a discount -> forget to ever play it -> repeat.
1. Never pay attention to cinematic trailers. Nothing makes me face palm more than seeing people say “this looks so good!” in response to a trailer that didn’t show a second of gameplay.
2. When you see the gameplay trailer, focus on the mechanics not the graphics. Odds are it won’t look as good when you get it, but it will probably play the same.
3. Buy From Software games. They’ll never disappoint you.
I never understood why y’all keep embarrassing yourselves by making the same mistake over and over then complain on the internet that it is the developers fault
This chart didn’t list sending death threats, harassing developers, and posting the same thing a million times in the game’s subreddit. This chart is not accurate.
The only 2 games coming out that I’m preordering are Dying Light 2 and Horizon Forbidden West. Those are the only games that I’m confident will actually be what has been advertised. I’d include Elden Ring in that, but I’m still working through Dark Souls, so I’m holding off. I don’t think there is anything wrong with preordering, sure people will say that you’re blindly giving them money, but it does help the developers get a good idea of how many people are interested in their game. I knew Cyberpunk was having issues with how much they delayed the game, and the lack of gameplay shown on older systems. I also think the game had way too much hype behind it that it was never gonna be what people expected it to be. It’s stupid to announce a game 8 years before it comes out, especially when they only worked on it for 3 of those years
Not for me. Burned too many times. no pre orders. no buying a game until I read reviews from sites/people I trust. And no buying a game unless it’s something I want to spend time playing. Time and money is to valuable to buy shit like cyberpunk or pokemon brilliant shiny turd
When tf are video game critics silenced??
There’s a few instances of publishers not releasing review copies weeks out from launch, or certain NDA’s on Alphas/Betas, but I wouldn’t say either of those fit ” critics are silenced”.
You’re a regular Ross Perot
pre ordering should have died when they transitioned to digital copies of games which cannot sell out
I think I’m permanently in caution nowadays
Always is, always will be.
“The video game cycle”
more like “the stupid gamer cycle who preorder then complain”
That wemt downhill very quick
EA Cycle:
Hype gme —
Preordered Elden Ring, idgaf #inmiyazakiwetrust
I think you’re missing the “old game is praised as a masterpiece” step. Usually happens after the broken game is released.

Except not every game fits this cycle.

So many good games got fucked by deadlines.
more like life cycle for brain dead fan boys.

also “because 1st world problems”.
Woah woah woah, where did “critics are silenced” come from? Thats not even remotely happening.
hell 80% of gamer culture is just pure criticism and bitching. This meme has some huge victim complex shit going on.
you’re not being silenced.

Comment here if you’ve broken the cycle & specify when it happened for you.
What’s a preorder?
I work on the patient gamer cycle:
Oh trailers out -> game comes out -> Forget about the game for a year or two -> steam sale -> oh yeah that game was a thing -> read latest review -> buy game at a discount -> forget to ever play it -> repeat.
I can’t believe how many people are still stupid
Enough to preorder
Preordering rewards good marketing not good gameplay
Not every pre-order is bad, FF7 Remake and RE2 Remake did not let me down.
Just got to know which companies to trust.
Gamepass. Uninstall, and move on to the next game.
Some tips for avoiding the cycle:
Break the cycle. Stop preordering.

I’ve not once regretted a pre-order. Y’all just suck at deciding which ones are worth it.
#Neverpreorder
Always wait a few months/years before buying a game. It will do better for you.
Not for me. Burned too many times. no pre orders. no buying a game until I read reviews from sites/people I trust. And no buying a game unless it’s something I want to spend time playing. Time and money is to valuable to buy shit like cyberpunk or pokemon brilliant shiny turd
The only people I would consider a pre-order from at this moment is Rockstar for GTA 6….

….so in other words, I’m not pre-ordering anything ever again.
Post this on Battlefield 2042 sub with a title blaming tha community…..sit down…..grab popcorn…..watch it all burn
