There are different types of dysmorphia. Constant checking is like a bodybuilder for example who never thinks they’re good enough so they can’t stop looking in the mirror, but if you’re disgusted by the way you look you might try to avoid mirrors completely.
Those can both be symptoms but they’re never the only symptoms. Also I don’t think there can be both at once. Although it’s a weird way they were listed there lol.
Dysmorphic disorder can be described as either 1) so unhappy that you’re constantly trying to become “perfect” (think plastic surgery addiction) or 2) so unhappy you can’t stand it
As someone who has body dysmorphic disorder, this is not even remotely funny. As others have said, you can experience both symptoms (among others) even though they are contrasting statements. Mocking a legitimate mental illness is in poor taste.
And yes, I know it’s “just a post” or “it’s just Reddit,” or “it’s just a joke.” But posts like these increase stigma, and that’s not helpful.

This could literally apply to anyone
I’m just fucking ugly. Is that a disorder?
This is true… sadly this is true
For anyone who’s dealt with someone going through this disorder, it’s definitely not funny.
Ironically, the person can alternate between being fixated with mirrors and avoiding them. Even freaking out if there is a mirror in the room.
Haha ya it’s so funny to make fun of mental illness!

Funny, or you just being ignorant to how things work?
Why is this dogshit post on my home page, it only has 200 upvotes? Reddit really sucks these days.
What if I’m just obsessed with my reflection? Is it a thing or am i just a crow?
Considering that a lot of disorders have symptoms that are opposites of each other, this sort of feels a bit … I dunno, phobic?
Omg it’s so funny to make fun of other people’s struggles!

I don’t know if you want to mock something like this chief…
