This has happened to me. Didn’t realize my plates were expired, BMV never sent me new stuff. Cop was super cool but he did enjoy lighting me up in the drive-thru.
This happened to a friend. When cop asked where was she going in such a hurry, her teen daughter replied, “Duh ! Burger King Drive through !!!”
Cop didn’t laugh. Ticket issued.
NAL but McDonald’s is private property, so unless there was some driving offence witnessed or observed prior to being on private property state/local police officers lack the authority to stop/search/pull over anyone on a whim in such a situation. Equally checking a license plate of someone/anyone requires cause for some suspicion of a crime to search a person or their property (vehicle, license plates etc). Laws vary a bit by state, but illegal vs legal search and seizure is a first line of defense for the informed. Don’t get bullied in such a scenario by bad cop bullshit, know the law.
On the other hand too; another scenario: if the person in the stopped car is notorious or known to have an outstanding warrant(s) or having committed a crime and a cop knows who they are, well, that’s a different story.
He ordered a bacon double cheeseburger, two supersized fries, two cherry pies, and an extra large diet coke. 5000 calories of gratuitous trash and the *audacity* to order a *diet* coke! Straight to jail.
If you go through the drive thru intoxicated, some places have a policy of calling the police. I don’t know if it’s a corporate policy, the one store I worked at had this policy.
I used to work fast food and people would get pulled over out of the drive thru lane at lest once every few months. Wanted with cops looking for them and they decided to wait ten minutes for fried chicken.
I first saw the cop, then the bag in the back, rolled my eyes and thought “dude are you trying to be funny?” And then realized what sub I was in and had a good laugh.
Is that a body in a plastic bag in your trunk? No matter, there was no question.
WHAT’S IN THE BAG?!
MYOB before the officer comes to ask about that body in your trunk…
oof, that was close!!
How is this funny??
