When I got married we had a limited number of people we could invite due to the venue size. My buddy started dating a girl about a week after he got the RSVP and threw this big fit about not getting a plus one. He threw such a fit that he said he wasn’t going to come to the wedding. Wouldn’t you know it that they broke up a week or two before the wedding and he all of the sudden wanted to come. He is one of me and my wife’s very good friends, so of course he was welcome. My other buddy made him sit in the truck during the ceremony though as a punishment.
One time I got a wedding invite like this (wasn’t officially with someone, but had someone I would’ve brought) and it was filled in as 1 all the same. I asked why, and the couple said they wanted me to focus on partying with them more. Then I barely got to hang out with them that day!
I asked my wife why she didn’t invite +1’s to our wedding. She said, “We do not need to spend good money feeding strangers that we will never see again.” I could not argue with that. My college roommate refused to come because we wouldn’t let him bring his flavor of the month. He was furious, but oh well, we barely speak anymore as it is. Because he didn’t come, we let one of the girls bring her *bOyFrIeNd.* Couldn’t even tell you this fucker’s name. But he got the steak, drank 2.9 gallons of maker’s mark & broke up with her 2 weeks after our wedding. Case in point.
For our weddings we extended +1s to anyone in committed relationships. My dad’s cousin, who’s been single for decades, wrote in his own +1. And then showed up with an escort.
When my brother’s wedding was coming up, I ribbed him asking if he’d picked out a date for it yet. He ended up Rsvp’ing no
I know this was a private joke between this friend. But, Reading the comments here are interesting. I recently was invited to a backyard wedding with the 1 guest being pre-filled out as well. I am a widow. Not dating. But it felt lonely. Like, you just have yourself. I couldn’t bring a friend? Not allowed? I declined. Only met the couple twice in my life anyway. Should I send a card and $ ? Still wondering!! Help!
I misread the accepts and declines as zeros.
I would decline. That’s just rude.
To put in context. She only wrote this on mine and it’s a joke we had about me never having dates for weddings.
Assuming this is a close friend. I would laugh, and then maybe bring a whole family.
bring a prostitute to the wedding
Does “Save the Date” formally mean “You’re invited?”
It didn’t used to. A “Save the Date” just meant “you should expect a formal invitation within a few weeks” and didn’t include an RSVP.
How is this funny?

I kinda love the hopefulness of that

this comment is a joke and very funny

Bit of a stretch assuming me falling in love would mean she’d come with me to a wedding…
Not funny. Really rude.
