This is why I love practical effects, they just stay the way they looked back in the day, yeah sure it looks aged a little but man you compare some films that used cgi instead and that just ages terribly. Always bring out more gross factor too I find! Also loved the body horror in society mental film..
I know Reddit has a huge boner for hating CGI but personally, I’ve always found stop motion to be a bigger nuisance in movies, it takes me out of the movie just like any bad CGI does.
Good cut decision. John’s good at that.
If you get his “Director’s Cut” of **Big Trouble in Little China**, you’ll find the movie is ***exactly*** the same as the release cut – but he provides the cut scenes separately with commentary as extras.
Worth the watch.
They cut the full scene but they still kept the shot of the tentacle wrapping around the detonator.
NGL, leaving it hidden was a good call – similar to the shark in Jaws for mose of the movie.
Also gives you the option of that ambiguous ending!
what the fuck was the thing…like what was it supposed to be?
Its a shapeshifter. Its not supposed to be identifiable. Its supposed to cause you unease because you cant place it.
Ah horribly interlaced video. Someone doesn’t know how to adjust settings.
If its this replicating virus-style alien, how come only things from the base emerge from it? Was Earth its first and only stop?
> waits nine seconds before pressing play on the video player they’re screen recording, doesn’t edit it at all
Reminds me of when you see someone swipe the iOS Control Center at the end of the video to stop screen recording
As nobody else seems to have posted it, I think [Thingu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrZ7PnolbQ4) is mandatory.
That movie was worth it just for the hat Kurt wore
The rule of a good horror movie is you don’t want to show your monster for as long as possible. I’m glad this was left on the cutting room floor.
That being said this is some of the best stop motion I’ve ever seen.

Ya. It’s worse with the extra footage for sure. That being said, the footage they used isn’t great either.
I love John Carpenter

I JUST watched this film for the first time this afternoon and most of those shots are in the film. Some of the really wide shots are not.
