So amazing, some time ago I tried to watch a video where he was doing a standup show and it was awful, he needs advice from a professional comedian or something. Other than that he’s been great every time I’ve seen him.
He’s incredibly impressive when he has both his massive stack of effects pedals and his mic with even more switches and doodads. This isn’t even his full power.
Of all the amazing things he does, the ability to make it sound like it’s both echoing PLUS the electronic fry at the same time – completely blows my mind.
I saw Winslow do a stand-up gig in Seattle about 6 years ago. The guy is legit funny and super nice. He was always my favorite character from Police Academy….. never disappoints.
Goddamn did I want to grow up to be Motor Mouth Jones when I was a kid. This is really incredible, he imitates the guitar better than I can play it, I mean I can’t play at all but, you know.
Imagine being the casting director of Police Academy.
“OK Michael. In this scene you’re going to be be handcuffed in a police station hallway with Steve Gutenberg. What can you do to make that *interesting*?”
He’s still doing it, too. He was on America’s Got Talent in recent years and is as passionate as ever. You can also go back to the 80s and see him on Match Game Hollywood Squares. He seems like a really genuine guy who is passionate for his craft. That passion has never died.
i love the cheech and chong movie where they’re in the welfare office or probation office. cheech is scoring with some babe. chong is in a waiting room or something.
one old man is laughing over and over. michael winslow is acting out a cat and dog fighting. he’s also sounding a voice of a baby crying. all the while the old man is laughing over and over again. michael gives the “baby” a bottle before he hits it (i think).
it’s been years since i’ve seen that movie. but it’s a scene of such stress. like if that was a real encounter it’d be so stressful to be sitting there
God damn I hate when a crowd doesn’t know how to clap along to music. Many people don’t realize how terrible it makes a song feel when you clap along on the downbeats (1, 2, 3, 4)
Obligatory mention of [Harry Connick Jr. utilizing rhythmic displacement](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UinRq_29jPk&ab_channel=Anton%26ThomasFriis) to “correct” a crowd that is clapping on the downbeats. He adds a beat to the end of the phrase at 0:40, causing the crowd to clap on the upbeats. Changes the entire feel of the groove.
That was impressive.
Sweet!
He was the only guy worth watching in Police Academy.

The bleeps, the sweeps and the creeps…
“Aw man I forgot my sustain pedal”
“Don’t worry I know a guy”
Crackle crackle

I follow him on twitter. He was volunteering to make sounds for Indy game developers today. Kind of cool I thought.
Michael Winslow should have been a bigger star. So much talent.

that video is indeed amazing.
but i love this video:
https://vimeo.com/12171944
it’s 21 minutes of winslow making accurate sound representation of typewriters. of typewriters.
it absolutely blows me away every time i remember to watch it.
pure artistry. might not be sonorous to some, might not be pleasing, but it is surely pure talent…
here’s a [newyorker article](https://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/the-history-of-the-typewriter-recited-by-michael-winslow) with a little background on the project.
Is it bad that I immediately checked google to make sure he is still alive?

(he is)
How is this even possible?! Michael Winslow is amazing!

The host’s look of absolute disbelief about halfway through was priceless
Few things make me more uncomfortable than listening to a crowd trying to clap along to a song

No need for extra musical instruments there. This man is superb, polished his talent through and through.
I think he’s found the bleeps, the creeps, and the sweeps.
The radar, it appears to be…jammed
Fun fact, there is actually no crowd there to applaud his performance so he made his own crowd sound, too.
On top of everything, he sings like a pro ‘

How in the actual fuck?
As a fellow voicetramentalist I can only cheer him on…
After WWIII people will sit around a campfire and ask Winslow to make nostalgic electric noises.
man when i was a kid i thought michael winslow was the coolest person ever.. so glad i grew up in the 80’s/90’s
