People laugh at the idea that the America government did tests on the possibility of psychic soldiers. But you have to check, right? Even if your assumption is “no of course not psychic powers aren’t a real thing” you still do the tests to confirm that hypothesis. The Russians could have been landing psychic spies on our shores and we’d have had no idea because we just said “nuh-uh, no such thing!”
This is a similar deal. No, there’s almost certainly nothing in the air that wasn’t put up there by humans or natural processes. But more data is never a bad thing. And when we get the results back saying “yeah just weird weather phenomena and the occasional spy plane no one will claim ownership of” maybe some tiny percentage of the nuts will accept that and not immediately claim that this report was ALSO managed to cover up THE TRUTH.
