Streams January 6:
>West Point, 1830. A world-weary detective (Bale) is hired to discreetly investigate the gruesome murder of a cadet. Stymied by the cadets’ code of silence, he enlists one of their own to help unravel the case — a young man the world would come to know as Edgar Allan Poe (Melling).
Huh, I was expecting it to be somewhat bland and boring, but it looks pretty atmospheric. Feeling optimistic
Hope this does well and movies like this make a resurgence

When?
I know it wasn’t filmed there, but having worked at West Point, I’ve always thought it would make a great setting for a movie like this.

I’m getting Bloodborne vibes because I recently started a replay of it.
I LOVE this sort of vibe. Creepy detective shit is my jam. Looking forward to this.
I love that Robert Duvall is still active. He takes very small parts, but those small parts are typically very memorable. I realize it isn’t a recent example, but his 5 or 10 minutes of screen time in 2009’s “The Road” was one of the highlights of that movie.
Dudley has been crushing it
i assume that Bale’s character ends up inspiring Poe to create Inspector C. Auguste Daupin
Reminds me of Ravenous and a book I read, can’t remember which.

Scott Cooper may be one of the most consistent directors in terms of quality. I think its part of the reason this is Bales 3rd film with him. He obviously trusts him.

Definitely interested and this looks awesome, but have yet to see a successful movie with Edgar Allen Poe as a character and there have been quite a few. Hope this breaks the mold.
The bale blue eye?
Poe is well known for his horror work, but not as commonly known these days for helping invent/advance the detective story genre. So this horror-detective story seems perfect for a movie about him.

Christian bale will be in anything, he doesn’t give a shit about the drama about Netflix from Hollywood directors
