That is an incredible story. I highly recommend others to watch it.
The OG Vlogger I see
Dude almost went blind and decided to go live in the woods to enjoy his eyesight if he had any left, that’s metal
I Need to find the original, without the guitar
Dang that’s a cool story.
You can watch all 4 Dick Proenneke movies here in full

That would be a tough contestant to beat on the show Alone.
Just watch the full doc, it is great.
I watched the PBS special and, although I understand why they chose a VO talent to speak for him, hearing his actual voice is so much more powerful.
This was really good. One thing I picked up quickly was that he might be from Iowa, because his accent sounds similar to the farmer guy from Napoleon Dynamite. The ND guy wasn’t an actor, and he didn’t even know they were filming when he said the line about the arrowhead, and I don’t think he would have been much younger than Dick Proenneke.
one episode he carves his own ladle for his flapjack batter. holy shit it was massive. fucker must have made some alaska sized uncle buck flapjacks with it.
Don’t care what anyone says about a hard life. Would give everything to live like this or die trying. Modern society is poison for my soul.
So, some of it is him filming himself, but a lot of the footage is clearly someone else filming him: the camera moves to follow him at distance, the camera focuses in on his face, the camera tracks his movements, etc. I don’t doubt any of his story, I just wonder who was running the camera during what was shown.
