One of them actually regained his sight, and was subsequently kicked from the group. I don’t know if it’s the guy on the album cover, at the back, but that’s a [true story.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Blind_Boys_of_Mississippi)
Damn. That’s a vibe and a half right there. Thank you!
I hadn’t realized there was a 5 blind boys of Mississippi. I saw Clarence Fountain and the Five Blind Boys of Alabama in the 90s. They were an amazing act.
It’s blowing my mind that these guys are different from the The Five Blind Boys of Alabama! Who knew there were two southern-state “Blind Boys” groups!?
Oh wow. I grew up with this song being on the ‘must sing’ list for every black church I ever attended.
Thank you so much I needed this today.
Is gospel music inherently Christian? I.e. is there non-Christian gospel music?
There were just *so* many folk, gospel, etc musicians back in the day that were blind.
Really puts into perspective how much more common blindness must have been in the earlier part of the 20th century…
You might know one of their songs as the theme song to The Wire
What’s up with all the old blind black guys using blind in their name particularly blues and folk?
Incredible voice, what a beautiful tone to it. How’d you come across them or do you listen to a lot of this style / era of music?
