The color palette in Utopia (UK) was amazing, it’s a shame the US version didn’t follow suit. [NSFW]

and it was also canceled too early…. what a shame
I think it’s best to think of them as two different shows. It would have been worse if they tried to carbon copy everything about the UK version. Kind of how the US version of The Office got better when they stopped following the UK script.
Haaaaaaaaa … I’m about to go down a rabbit hole, aren’t I.
I always hate when things end of a cliffhanger and then they are canceled. The UK version was great and I wish they got at least a 90 minute movie to wrap it up.
The US version was unwatchable for me, just too cruel and bleak – and yes i know the concept is by it’s very nature cruel and bleak but the violence in the UK version felt like part of the heightened reality of the show – the violence in the US version was just grim and depressing.
Everything about Utopia UK version was amazing, one of the few shows IMHO that gets a 10 across the board, cinematography, acting, dialogue/script, plot, pacing, sound/music, etc. Just top notch.
Both of them got shitcanned apparently!
‘Too close to reality’ Uhuh
Then again this is the universe where I believe it was a judge ended up using 24 (the show) as a valid reference for the legality of torture
I wish shows in general had more style to them. Cinematography is generally weak in many tv programs.
If you’ve already seen the show I recommend watching [Pyrocynical’s video essay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFx2QM0Z8Qo) on it. It’s almost 8 hours long but worth the watch. Definitely watch the show beforehand though as his video is obviously very spoiler heavy.
The blood gushing all over everything while he stumbles to the door was A++ special effects. Looked amazing.
Can anyone familiar with this show explain the context of that scene?
I saw this years ago and have been thinking about it since. Always wanted them to pick it up or at least keep it going.
Be careful what you wish for, eh?
It embraces being a ‘comic book show’ by embracing the aesthetics of how older comic books used art and color. Even though it’s not based on an actual comic, just centered around a fictional graphic novel that gives the series its name, it’s one of the most comic book shows I’ve ever seen.
I loved the UK version of the show, and refused to watch the American version because I knew there was no way it could compete. The color palette was so bold and unique, and the soundtrack was incredible.
I loved the scene about not having kids:

I watched Utopia UK after seeing clips here. Great show, exceptional visual directing.
When I looked for it I saw there is US and a third version. I started the US version too, and could not bear it. So much worse. Very generic.
EVERYTHING about Utopia (there is only one version we need to talk about) was amazing. Then they fucked it by canceling it, and Amazon fucked it up even further by producing that pile of shit we don’t need to talk about instead of giving the REAL Utopia the 3rd season it deserved.
