  • That’s not what you really pay for though.

You’re really paying for the disapproving state from the barrista for whatever you ordered, coupled with their carefully watching to see if you click the ‘25%, 30%, or 35%’ tip button… and the annoyed sigh for disturbing the person at a nearby table as you sit down, from the person who has been there the past three hours sipping on an 8 ounce americano.

  • you can get an espresso machine with a grinder and frother built in for under $600, and a pound of coffee for under $10, which will last you maybe two weeks for espresso, depending on intake, so just about half a year of not spending on barista drinks will recoup the investment.

inconvenient? maybe a little. difficult? sure, unless you want to put in the work to learn. not as good? depends on how specific you are about your coffee

so, ask again, what are they charging for

  • You’re paying for the workers wages, the building and utility costs, the milk which is more expensive than the coffee, the transport of the coffee, the convenience and last but definitely not least you’re paying for corporate greed.
