It’s interesting seeing a show set in this time period and with American accents, because we rarely get something like this. It’s always been about the wars and slavery and stuff, and with English accents.
Don’t get me wrong: I DO understand that this show and the 1995 BBC miniseries are both based on the (unfinished) novel of the same name that Edith Wharton was writing at the time of her death in 1937. So the title doesn’t come from Apple TV+, and it’s not their fault I’m befuddled.
But having never read the book, or seen the BBC series, and having only just seen this trailer…I don’t get it. Why did Edith Wharton title it “The Buccaneers”?
Is there some definition of the word “buccaneer” that I’m unaware of, other than “pirate”? Or was Wharton trying to say that these American girls are pirating the love (and titles) of the English lords they are trying to marry? Is that it?
I’m so confused. I’ll give this show a try. Hopefully the title is explained somehow!
I dig it, though I admit I was let down by my assumption that it would be a pirate show.

Edit:oh, it’s a romance. Lovely…
I had no idea they were remaking this. I’m so excited! I loved the1995 mini series.
why in these shows everybody have to be so pretty?

I love the novel and the 1995 BBC miniseries so I’ll be watching but I hope they don’t change the story too much 🙏🏻
Wait, how are they supposed to put an apple product in the show every 30 seconds if it’s set so far in the past?
