Crazy but of personal history. My dad passed away on March 23rd 1984. My folks were divorced and he lived out of state. It would have been right around 7am on Saturday morning March 24th when she broke the news to me. I watched this movie dozens of times and never made the connection to the date. Love that movie.
Sitting in the theatre in 1985 watching this, remembering your very own “last March” was very real. No one cared it was last year when you were feeling aalllll the feels!
I had the COOLEST job on my High School newspaper. I got to review this movie! I loved it then and just recently saw it again in a movie theatre. It is still great.
I graduated High School in ’84. Geezus, that seemed like just yesterday.
Enjoy everyday to its fullest.
(my actual HS yearbook quote that I stole from my Dad)
My second favorite movie . It’s mostly because I was in high school then and it felt great to see people
Like me. This and St. Elmo’s Fire we’re filmed in 1984 . Judd cut his hair for the role in St. Elmo’s fire obviously.
“And these children that you spit on,
As they try to change their worlds
Are immune to your consultations,
They’re quite aware of what they’re going through”
– David Bowie
I was born in 1990 and even I was not ready to see that next year it’ll be 40 years since The Breakfast Club had detention together.
Such a great film. I remember watching it in high school when I was probably 15, and even then in 2005, there was so much of that movie that translated, pretty much the emotions of being a teenager. The rebellion, confusion, trying to figure out who you are, eagerness to still fit in, and not wanting to face that next step in growing up.
Doing some quick math, it turns out that John Bender finally finished all of his weekend detentions on **Saturday, March 11th, 2023**.
He’s finally free!!!
Possibly the greatest ending titles soundtrack ever?
If not can you name a better one?
I have seen people on Reddit trash this movie but I think it is one of the most real movies about High School I have ever seen.
Literally 1984
“I wear the required uniform”
Gen X represent!

One of my all time favorites
Alright I know what I’m watching tonight

This is an excellent movie, I recommend it to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

The title of this post makes no sense.
A naked blonde walks into a bar, carrying a poodle under one arm and a 6-foot salami under the other…
“Show Dick some respect”
It is a timeless combo. Rebel+Jock+Emo+RegularGirl+Nerd+weed (I was 19 when it came out, and yeah, it pretty much captured life in high school.)

Fun movie. The good old days.
I love this movie.
Every good 80s movie needs a training montage
One of the Best movies ever
Lived it. Super accurate. HS ’86
The movie was filmed in 1984 and said it took place in 1984. Not sure there’s a real argument that it does “look” 80s enough.
So, almost 20 years ago.
