The first shot I thought I was watching Grave of Fireflies. Classic Ghibli animation looks awesome as always. This is gonna be amazing. And apparently Miyazaki was not happy with the Studio not promoting his movie in Japan.
It’ll hit theaters in USA/Canada nationwide and IMAX on December 8, 2023.
**Synopsis**
>A young boy named Mahito yearning for his mother ventures into a world shared by the living and the dead. There, death comes to an end, and life finds a new beginning. A semi-autobiographical fantasy about life, death, and creation, in tribute to friendship, from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki.
This looks gorgeous. The air raid scene at the beginning feels more subjective and abstract than anything Miyazaki has done before.
It still feels so unreal that a new Miyazaki is coming. And that we now have a trailer for it. I hope that this will soon get a release date where I live.
Miyazaki is my favorite director so I’ll go into this film so excited because it’s a new Miyazaki movie, but also incredible sad because it’s his last one.
The last time I’ll get to experience a film of his for the first time. Fuck I’m tearing up just thinking about it. I’m gonna be an emotional mess that day.

Eternal, and eternal I endure.

I am extremely excited for this. Princess Mononoke is my favorite film of all time, and I’m expecting this movie will most likely affect me in the same way. The visuals are already fantastic. I won’t be watching anything else after this trailer because I’d like to go in as blind as possible.
poor things and this movie are coming out the same day. It’s going to be a very exciting week at the movies for me come early December.
I want every single studio who’s been using the really awful cell-shaded CGI anime (looking at you, Netflix) to look at this and tell me you aren’t ashamed of the quality of your own anime.
And now I understand why they didn’t show anything or at least have been tight lipped. This looks fucking beautiful.
Looks fantastic, 2d animation at its best is just something else.

Oh my goodness, this is gonna be something *special* isn’t it.
There’s stuff in here that I don’t think I’ve ever seen Miyazaki do before. Like he’s channeling Takahata in some sequences.
I’ve never been more hyped for anything in my entire life
Fucking chills! THE HYPE!!
Oh man this one is going to *hurt* isn’t it? I’m very excited.
It’s Miyazaki, it’s going to be a masterpiece.
Looks stunning

When I saw stills I thought it looked plain but oh my god seeing it in action makes all the difference. This looks fantastic!
Holy shit that animation is something special. This looks absolutely incredible. I can’t wait to see it.
Wonder if there’ll be a dub, cause Ghibli is known for have great dubs

It’s inscribed on the gates of hell.
You see those moments of art styles from Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Grave of Fireflies, and Howls. Pure chills the entire time.

holy shit
Seems like there were a bunch of odes to his previous films in this trailer. Anyone else get catch that?

I hope studios push hard to get this recognized at the Academy Awards. It looks like it could be the year’s best new film.
I don’t want to sound hyperbolic, but this year truly makes it feel like the movies are back
That
Looks
GORGEOUS
I know he always says each movie is his last movie but I have a feeling this is the last one and it hurts my soul a little.
Wow this made me incredibly emotional. Miyazaki is my favorite artist of all time and this feels so important. Holy cow I can’t wait.
Animated movies are cooking this year
Damn, too bad it’s Miyazaki’s last movie.
I read ‘the boy and the heroine’ – a different kind of story I guess.
It’s been like 5 minutes and I still have goosebumps. That was beyond impressive.
I am not watching this
The trailer I mean, I want to go to the theater blind
