Digging the sideburns.
Chilton looks uncomfortable
Chilton is one of the most underrated talents to come out of the 60’s, with the Box Tops and later Big Star the dude practically invented Power Pop.
All the facial expressions are great
One of my favorite videos of all time. The band goes off the rails toward the end and it’s hysterical.
That’s a deep voice for 16!
Give him some blue glasses and he could be Mitch Hedberg.
That was my jam when I was a kid.
The plane takeoff sounds at the end are so great too. This was really ahead of its time.
This is one of those songs I assumed was sung by a black guy.
I never travel far without a little Big Star
He’s 16 here? What is with ages looking younger and younger now? He looks like an angry divorced dad!
Good voice, not so good at lip syncing
Great voice. Looks the same age as me and I’m 27
That voice sounds like he may have been swiping nonfilter camels out of grandmas cigarette purse.

Big Star were even cooler.
That’s Mitch Hedberg
I had always heard stories about Chilton being difficult and surly. My old band opened for him about 20 years ago, and he was just lovely.
He’s so angsty. I love it.
So that’s the guy that wrote all those car repair manuals. Huh.
I like to follow this song up with “heard it through the grapevine”
The keyboardist is absolutely hilarious.
❤️❤️❤️
16??? I’ve loved this song my entire life, 51 years thus far. He sounds like an old dwarf of a man, like my whole life I’ve envisioned an old man hobbit singing this song. Why did he voice sound so mature lol
Very few people who lived on planet Earth have been as cool as Alex Chilton.
Echoed later by Richard whatsisface of The Verve!
John Stamos on the guitar.
Ayo this song’s fire
That is one amazing smooth song. Kinda haunting sound.
He’s got Elijah wood teeth
It’s pretty obvious it’s prerecorded. Those guys are smirking and playing up that they are not really playing their instruments when the cameras are on them. Cheeky!
That clip has hilariously bad lip synching..
Buy me a ticket for an aeroplane. Ain’t got time to take a fast train.
