The border crossing opening shot in Better Call Saul (S2E08) is one of the best pieces of filmmaking ever.

BCS isn’t shot on film.
how did they even do that? drone? or was it multiple shots cut together?
Agreed.
Motherfucker, I just watched this episode an hour ago! You got some explaining to do, OP
Nah bro
I just spent 4m30s being mesmerized by bureaucracy all over again.
Everyone is discussing the single shot aspect, which is amazingly well done. But the pacing and timing of the action along with the soundtrack is almost a groove. There is a rhythm and beat to every action.
BCS makes me wish I’d pursued filmmaking, any aspect of it I could have gotten myself into, rather than my successful 25-year career as a technology project manager. I wish I was managing shoots and *those* kinds of projects!
This whole show is one of the best pieces of filmmaking ever.
It is wild that BCS is just as good as BB
The show is just a masterpiece of opening shots. Every episode, I have no idea what is going on or what they are setting up, but I am riveted
wish the people and crews from these shows would keep making new stuff since bcs is coming to an end
these people have a style and are really, really talented and we all love it. like an ABQ extended universe thing, wish they would do.
with that said, the best piece of filmmaking is may 11, 1980 from goodfellas.
I liked this shot better when Orson Welles did it 70 years ago.
And then when Altman did it 40 years ago.

I love a long tracking opening shot! Here’s couple more all time greats:
A Touch of Evil (1958) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhmYY5ZMXOY&ab_channel=FixMeAScene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhmYY5ZMXOY&ab_channel=FixMeAScene)
The Player (1992) [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEk-QGNQ3OM&ab_channel=barthesian](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEk-QGNQ3OM&ab_channel=barthesian)
It’s an homage to the famous 3:20 opening shot of “Touch of Evil,” by Orson Welles, 1958. Even the music is reminiscent.

You can tell the directors really love playing with the shots in these two shows; almost every episode there’s an interesting and unique shot. In the most recent episode I think there’s a shot from *inside* a coffee maker.
I love that this opening shot was inspired by Touch of Evil by Orson Welles.
> best pieces of filmmaking ever.
Jeez.
For a spin off show this was way way way better than it had any right to be. Incredible story telling
How is it one of the best pieces of filmmaking ever? Can you provide more details?
