48k was to the anesthesiologist alone.
E: ok guys, I messed up. 49k went to cardiology, 18k for anesthesiologist. It was 2 years ago, Sorry about the misinformation.
$500 deductible https://imgur.com/gallery/b69TR3k
The insurance negotiated the bill down to 2 grand. 98 grand is phony. A 500 dollar Tylenol kind of phony.
oh hey i went to the same sutter and had a bill for $2k for them asking me questions and not doing anything else.
258 plus change seems reasonable
I just had to get the rabies shots because of a stupid bat. I’ve only gotten one bill so far and it’s $4,000, still waiting on the bills for the other 3 shots. I’m also insured.
American healthcare accounting is totally insane.
BTW Sutter billed almost 130K for my heart surgery in San Francisco 18 months ago. My insurance paid them almost 100K and I had to pay 3K. I was surprised Blue Cross didn’t get a bigger “adjustment”.
$258 for a pair of New Balance??
Compared to other crazy medical bills that are posted on reddit… I think 100k for a heart surgery is kinda cheap!
… makes you realize how fucked up the system really is!
Sutter once billed me for an IUD
I am a male.

This was your one and only bill? No drip-drip-drip of additional bills from other parties, subcontractors, affiliates, etc?
Lucky you!
Insurance be like “we “negotiated” the price down to $258.50, after your $250 deductible we paid your doctor $8.50.”
That top number almost gave me a heart attack.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
I almost went broke from my heart surgery in Canada
28 bucks for a week of parking, what a rip off.
Whoa! What kind of insurance do you have?! I had surgery this year and the total bill was around $60k and I had to pay about $4k of it myself after insurance 🙁
Glad to see someone in the 916 doing well.
Ayyy Sacramento
Large made up number – slightly smaller large made up = what you pay.
Welcome to health insurance in the US!
In a country so incentivised to cut costs in business, I don’t understand why companies don’t try to push for public healthcare. Companies having to offer healthcare insurance must be a massive cost. Wouldn’t they be trying to avoid paying that? Or is there private health care that you pay for individually?
My kiddo’s heart surgery was $670,000 at that same hospital. You made it out easy!
I’m Canadian and I’ve never seen a bill in my life. They just do the stuff you need and that’s it. Unless you opt to get an upgraded hospital room or something. But we have to wait *forever* for non-urgent procedures. Like years in many cases.
Extreme couponing has gone too far
Even Cyberpunk Trauma Team don’t charge that much to revive a dead person.
Bro has great insurance

Wife had a $25k surgery earlier this year in the USA. Total bill was $1.04. It is what they charged me at their in hospital pharmacy for her pain killers. The gas to get there was far more expensive than the care itself.
Who the fuck is your insurance company
American here. I recently worked in Denmark for 30 months. In Denmark, they ask you “Do you prefer a male or female doctor?” And then they assign you a doctor in your neighborhood. That’s it. No paperwork. No exam. Have a medical issue? Go see your doctor. I only paid for prescription medication – and the prices are generic. It’s so much simpler when private corporations aren’t trying to gouge you for money every time you turn around.
I will never understand why we Americans put up with living as slaves.
